The sun shone brightly above them, spilling heat over their faces, rays of light trickling over collarbones and bare knees, fingers tingling with the warmth of summer and the joy of being alive.
It was so easy to pretend that everything was normal and they were just two teenagers, sharing soft kisses on a summer's day. Harry buried his hands in Ginny's hair and just kissed her, thinking only of how perfect she felt, and how badly he wanted to be here forever, in the sun with his lips on Ginny's and no thoughts of war to darken his day.

Winter was coming, and it grew harder by the moment to remember the joyous heat of summer days, the soft perfection of Ginny's kisses.
Harry was lonely, frustrated, and tired. But he trudged on, because he had to.
He just hoped Ron would keep trudging with him.
