The Day of my Birth

Jul 10, 2005 23:25

I had a most fantabulous day today, the 18th anniversary of my birth. Huzzah. I got up around 10ish, wandered around aimlessly for an hour and a half, talked to Graham on the phone when he called to wish me a Happy Birthday, went to work at 12, and wandered around aimlessly for 6 hours (but was getting paid for doing it, so minimal complaints here...although if you ask Rebecca, Christy, or Sampy, there was maximum complaining there). While at work, Christy gave me the best present ever. She had 18 balloons, a massive card and a copy of Victor Hugo's Love Letters printed in 1900. I was flabbergasted.
After my shift, I shoved all 18 balloons into my dad's tiny Toyota Corola and drove home. I went up to my room to go change and when I went in, I saw my desk lamp pointing a beam of light over to my trunk, where there was a birthday bag, a wrapped present, a card, and 18 long-stem roses. When I went to go grab some shorts from my drawer, I saw out of the corner of my eye that my stereo was a different color than the one I had left there that morning.
My parents bought me a brand new stereo and arranged my CD's and candles and pictures on top in exactly the same way I had left them on the old one so I wouldn't notice it right away. On the stereo was a Post-It with the note, "Play Disc 1 Track 2". The song? "Happy Birthday to Me" by Cracker.
Then I went downstairs, ate Chicken-Sausage-and-Shrimp Gumbo with homemade biscuits outside on the deck with mi familia, and opened the rest of my presents. Nothing big, just a CD/DVD tower, a creepy candy thing we sell at K-mart (it's a container with a face, that's filled with gummy worms and grass seeds, so you water the grass and it grows. It's very French and very random), and some trailmix that is absolutely orgasmic. A very eclectic present, I know, but fabulous none the less.
Then we had champange (any excuse to drink in my house), ordered my laptop for school, and I talked to my grandparents, then Christy on the phone. And now I am here, feeling very content with my life.

My daddy is so cute. I can't tell you how many times he just looked over at me and smiled, gave me a hug or kiss, or picked me up over his shoulder. I think he's sort of in shock that his little baby is 18.

I love everyone. Thank you so much for your wishes and company and just existing. I couldn't be more content.
And now I will leave you with the best birthday song ever: "Happy Birthday to Me" by Cracker-

I was having a good sleep
in my car
In the, parking lot of the
Showboat Casino hotel

I say, "I remember you
you drive like a PTA mother"
You brought me draft beer
in a plastic cup

I'm feeling thankful
for the small things, today
I'm feeling thankful
for the small things, today

Happy, Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
and to you

Happy, Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
and to you-ah

I'm feeling thankful
for the small things, today
I'm feeling thankful
for the small things, today

I remember you
I crashed your wedding
With some, orange crepe paper
and some Halloween candy

A sometimes
I wish I were Catholic
I don't know why
I guess I'm happy to see your face
at a time like this

Happy, Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
and to you-ah

Happy, Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
and to you-ah

Happy Birthday baby, to me
Happy Birthday, to me
Happy Birthday, to me
Happy Birthday, to me
