For me, a bestfriend is someone whom you can be completely at ease with, even though you are not talking to each other, and just sitting quietly together. A bestfriend is always there through thick and thin. S/he's the one person who has seen your tears, not just your laughters. S/he's also the one person whom you want to share your happiness and sorrow. S/he's also the one who texts and calls you first thing when everything's not going right. S/he's the one person whom you can't say no, and also rarely says no to you, especially if you need each other.
I have a bestftiend, named Cheryl, and we've been together since our freshmen year in the university. We've known each other for 9 years. At first, we aren't really that close, but we're always together. It's maybe because we're both shy and we just need company. But since we are always together, we develop a special kind of bond, like more than sisters. We are always in the same group when it comes to school projects, group work, etc.. When it's individual work, we tend to help each other. In my case, when she's not doing good in one of her subjects, such as English, I'd help her edit her essays and such. And when I'm finding it hard to understand some problems in Math, I'd ask for her help, and she'd definitely try to help. We also always go together anywhere, to the library, cafeteria, mall, karaoke bar, etc..
Actually, we're completely opposite of each other. She's really kind and is always ready to help other people. Our classmates would most of the time ask for answers to our assignments. She'd let them copy her assignment, while I always scold her for doing that. I never like it when other people depend on us. I, at least, want to teach them first before letting them copy my assignments. For me, it would be such a waste to let them copy without making them uderstand whatever they are copying. Since I'm so strict when it comes to these things, my classmates naturally favor her over me. I'm always the despised one, while she doesn't like it when there's a tension between her and someone. She tends to please everybody, while I don't really care what people think of me.
Nevertheless, even though we have completely different personalities, it's amazing how we get along really well. She's probably the only person who can come to our home anytime. My family knows her very much, and welcomes her to our home. Same thing goes with me. I'm pretty much welcome in their home, and I also get along well with her sisters. So, basically, we consider each other as part of our respective families, one way or another. My father would not let me have sleepover or overtime work at a classmate's house if I'm not with Cheryl.
Today, we seldom talk, but we know each other's sentiments, worries, goals, and dreams. Once we meet, we'd talk about how things are and how we can help each other to achieve each other's dreams.
