Siyempre, last-minute packing na naman ako for the orienteering weekend. Hindi na nga ako dapat sasama dahil may report ako na hindi ko pa natatapos dahil bumagyo. Buti na lang, the submission was postponed.
We left for Laiya at around 2 in the morning. Everyone was reviewing their skills at the bus. Gusto kong maki-review but I decided to sleep na lang. I feel confident naman that I'll pass the skills test. It's just an application of what you have learned from the whole BMC Training. And I've been paying attention to all the lectures and applying what I've learned during training climbs so I'm ok. I guess.
Dumating kami sa Coco Grove resort around 6am. We still have plenty of time to review pala. I tried understanding the concepts of land navigation. Kasi, we have to find our way through six stations. And if we perform poorly on our land nav skills and miss the stations, we won't be able to pass the rest of the skills test.
The orienteering started at 10am. My group was the first to be deployed. Kasama ko sina Kim, Vicky, Ike and Leo(the GL for our group). We had no gameplan except to bribe the station masters with cans of san mig strong ice. Hehe
The first station we were asked to go to is located at the registration area of Mt. Daguldol. It wasn't hard to find but it's too far. It was the stovemanship station. We were asked to operate 5 kinds of stoves. I know how to operate the Dragonfly, Whisper-lite, Simmer-lite, and Peak 1. I just got a bit confused with how to assemble the Trangia. And I wasn't able to identifly all the parts of the MSR stoves. After that, we took our lunch before proceeding to the next station.
We got a little bit lost while trying to find the second station which was the ropemanship station. It was a house of a certain kagawad. When we finally got there, it started drizzling. Hay salamat. Kanina pa ko sobrang naiinitan. We were first given a written test. After that, we were asked to do a series of knots and hitches. I was able to do all of them except for the first one coz I got confused with the instruction.
The third station near the Globe cell site was the backpack loading station. They asked us to take out our stuff and packed it again in one minute. Tapos they asked us to do a performance. Eh wala na akong maisip, so penerform ko na lang yung tagalog version ng Pearly Shells. Buti naman at natuwa sila.
Next was the tent pitching station located at the Laiya Cunty Club.
cutebalddiver asked us to pitch three tents within 12minutes. Two of the tents, sobrang hindi ko pa nakita before. We just tried figuring out how it works. And we did, though we weren't able to pitch it perfectly. Kahit papaano, natuwa naman si TB sa group namin. Kasi we were resourceful. Binigyan niya pa kami ng malamig na orange juice before we left the station.
The fifth station which is located near the Laiya river was the trail movement station. I was so excited to see Alvin was there. He was the TL during our TC4. And I find him really cute and nice. Wala lang.Ü
The sixth station was the Basic First Aid station. It's located at the beach resort na. Finally, matatapos na rin kami. So far, kami ang leading among the six groups. Pagdating namin dun, sobrang nagulat ako. Tabby was there. Omfg, nakakahiya kasi sobrang crush ko siya. I remember I even approached him one time sa Gov habang sabaw-sabaw ako. Nakakahiya talaga. Buti na lang umalis siya while we were doing the BFA skills test. Kung hindi, I won't be able to do all the bandages na pinagawa ni
ialman sa sobrang nerbiyos.
Finally, last station na. The BMC station. We were asked questions about AMCI History, Climb Ethics and Climb Organization. We were able to answer them. Then, Neri asked us to do an interpretation of the AMCI Hymn. Jesus H. Christ. I don't even know how the song goes. Good thing Kim has a copy of the lyrics. Our group decided that Kim and Ike will sing while Vicky, Leo and I would do the dancing. Sabi ko kay Leo, magpole dancing na lang. Pumayag naman siya. In fairness, sobrang naaliw naman sila sa sayaw ni Leo. hehe.
