monday was a great day. i had a lovely roberto alomar show and then raced with dina over to see explosions in the sky play the wiltern.

in december of 2005, they played two shows at troubadour of which i saw one. i had all but forgotten the lasting effect it had on me. for the next year, i talked almost exclusively about them (much to the dismay of certain latshaws) and the following remained my desktop image:

the wiltern show was no different. they were perfect, mind-blowing, transcendent. i can't recommend seeing them live enough. for those of us who are nonbelievers, it is the closest you can get to a religious experience without making a hypocritical donation. they greet the audience with, "hi, we're explosions from the sky, and we're from texas." the music starts and doesn't stop until they are finished. the audience was mature for an la audience and i was thankful. it seemed proof that american is capable of a long attention span. if you don't want to hear more about this concert, do not talk to me for the next couple of months.

on the way home, we needed cadbury creme eggs for some reason.  i'm never one to argue with inspiration, so to pavilions we went.  it was crowded for being 11:52 and there were only two aisles open.  8 minutes before midnight seems like a time where shopping trips should be very specific (i need creme eggs.  i need whiskey.  i need shovel) but people had carts brimming with variety.  one perturbed gentleman was arguing/discussing something with a befuddled manager.  he said, "i'm sorry i had to ask you to open another lane, but YOU CAN'T TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS."  it was quite dramatic.  on the way to my car he had a good lead but kept stopping and looking behind him with a crazy look in his eye.  when we passed he wished us a good night and we continued on, a little more frightened than before.  we got in the car, and looked back only to see him push his empty shopping cart at the car parked in the handicapped spot, cock his head back and cackle.  we got the fuck out of there.
