I would like to hear other's opinions on this please.....
On Boxing Day, our side fence blew down in a strong wind. As it is the fence next to our pool, I rang our insurance company and they immediately sent over someone to put up a temporary fence. The owner of the house next door doesn't live there, it is tenanted. We rang the owner (Thien) and we agreed that it would be put through both our insurance. ***Thien is Vietnamese and doesn't discuss "business" with women, and only deals with my husband****
Thien got the first quote, which came in at $700 each. I sent this quote to my insurance company, but they rejected it saying it was overpriced. They suggested I get a quote from another fencing company, which I did, and this quote was $545 each. This quote was sent to my insurance company and to Thien's insurance company. Almost 8 weeks later, (after constant nagging from my husband that I was just "sitting on my fat ass and not doing anything about the fence" - despite the fact I told him that OUR insurance company was waiting to hear back from Thien's insurance company)..... our insurance company sent us a bank cheque for $545. I rang the fencing company that did our quote, and organised for them to come next week. Thein rang my husband to find out when he would be home, so he could drop off a cheque for his share of the fence.
Problem - his cheque was for $700 and made out to the OTHER fencing company....
I told him that he needed to change his cheque, as our insurance company only agreed to pay the lesser quote of $545 - he will not change his cheque, saying that we should use HIS quote, and we just have to pay the extra $155
I think that this is ridiculous! I simply cannot understand why we should have to pay more money? My husband is furious with me - screaming at me that I am holding everything up by being stupid and stubborn - but in my opinion, if it only costs $545 to have the fence replaced - why pay someone else more than that? Why use the most expensive quote?
I'm very interested to hear all opinions on this
