Dearest Rabastan-
I hope today’s holiday finds you well.
I wished to tell you in person, but as your circumstances prevent you joining me for dinner tonight, I won’t have the pleasure. However, I thought that instead of saving the news for a later date, you would want to hear now.
There is a position within the Ministry for you, should you want it. The head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement has been looking for a Personal Secretary, and the Department was hoping to promote from within the Ministry. However, Mr Tiberius Ogden, head of the Department, came to see me on Friday morning, and enquired after your résumé, saying that none of the Ministry’s candidates seemed to pose the aptitude and command the post required, or come from a suitable background. He returned to my office in the afternoon, so impressed with your résumé and your references that he assured me that you were the most accomplished candidate he had yet considered, and that he was determined to hire you for the post.
You don’t need me to tell you what a useful position this could be for you, of course, but such an important, influential and authoritative position within the Ministry would probably benefit others as well as yourself.
I think this is the sort of appointment you were hoping for; I think you would be greatly suited to it. In truth, I didn’t believe such a suitable position would be available for you so soon, and this is certainly a better potion than I had hoped for. There are few that can boast that they held such an exulted station so early in life, or claim to have been sought out for it.
If you would like, Rabastan, I can arrange to be on the board at your interview, but I doubt you will need any more help from me or anyone else. I have not told any one else of your success, but I would like to take you to dinner to celebrate.
