Ha! Thought you were going to get away with it, didn't you? Coming home for Christmas and not seeing me!
*throws himself down on the chair opposite*
I haven't got you a present, I'm afraid. But I expect you haven't got one for me either so I guess we're even.

*glances up at his arrival, looking worn out*
And there I thought that I had gotten away with it.
*can't help a smile*
*almost fondly*
You and me, even? Not by a long shot, Potter.

*peers at him with faint concern*
God, you look knackered. What have they been doing with you at Hogwarts?
*brightens at the smile*
Well... it's a step closer. You'll get there eventually, Black, never fear. I won't leave you alone until you do.

*frowns a little*
How kind of you to point it out. It's nothing. Studying. It's a busy year.
*wrinkles his nose*
*teasingly, although he still sounds tired*
You won't leave me alone until you're even with me? You'll have a long wait.

Was the Muggle attacking you?

*quietly*
Not exactly. Call it a pre-emptive attack on our part.

harriedpotter November 20 2006, 00:30:22 UTC
You attacked... an innocent man? For... for what reason?

*determinedly, although he can't quite keep the waver from his voice*
He wasn't innocent. He wasn't. They're all equally guilty.

Do you think it should hurt you when you kill a rat or a mouse?

Because that's all you're doing you know; exterminating vermin.

*raises his chin*
You're right. Of course you're right. It was foolish of me to forget that.

*solemn*

Not foolish Regulus. I would never say that.

You just need to keep your perspective. Look at the ends and not the means.

He's trying to help, really he is! :/

*nods*
Yes. Yes. The ends justify the means. I never believed it true, but I see it now. I do.

I think he needs all the help he can get. :)

Someone stands for everything that's wrong with our world.

It isn't that unfortunate Muggle.

What do you know of our world? You wouldn't be part of it if not for some unfortunate twist of events. How can you possibly understand?

lily_tiger November 20 2006, 15:45:43 UTC
I understand enough to know why it's wrong to attack an unarmed man, two-on-one, and torture him. Do you?

*defensively*
It wasn't like that at all. You know absolutely nothing about the situation. You couldn't.

(hand hovers briefly over Regulus's eggnog, casual but not especially furtive)
(lightly, but with emphasis)
Cheers, Regulus.
But if you'd rather not, if you're too tired to enjoy the occasion, why can't you beg off? Get some rest?

*looks up wearily*
*raises his glass to him*
Cheers.
*shakes his head*
I'm fine, I've just been busy. I can't shirk my responsibilities when it's my own fault.

(eyebrows)
What's meant to be your fault, exactly? Being born into a high-profile family that holds unshirkable gatherings? For shame.
If you can't, you can't. Drink up, then, at least, you'll feel better.

(pours some for himself)
(mostly idly)
I wonder if the originators of the drink knew what they were doing? Protein and sugar's a good combination for energy, and if you use the nutmeg and brandy properly it works wonders against upset stomachs and nausea. Almost the perfect late-dinner-party restorative, if it weren't so heavy.

Sorry about the spam--something odd there. (puzzles at LJ)

*tries to sound firm*
My family comes first, and I would never let them down just for something so trivial as a rest. The holidays are always busy, and if I am to be the head of the family one day, then I must be stronger.

*takes a slow drink*
*small smile*
Perhaps they were bored Potions masters, experimenting?

No problem. LJ can be ever so silly sometimes!
