This year I had the sheer pleasure of writing fic for a book I have loved for so very long: The Silver Sun, which is book two of Nancy Springer's The White Hart Series (or, more accurately, The Books of Isle).
If you haven't read these books? Do. Every one of them is slashy somehow. I read them the first time when I was an impressionable teenager, and I'm pretty sure they've colored what I've sought from slash stories since - if only in the sheer strength of connection between the characters. And they also hit that fondness I've got for Bildungsromans.*
Mir Belledas is an Alan/Hal missing scene, set in Laueroc on Midsummer's eve. It's Alan/Hal, so that means incest(NC17).
They love each other so much.
quasar273 wanted smut in the author's style, which proved to be more of a challenge than just writing incest - and sometimes I have trouble remembering that Alan/Hal is incest, particularly while reading the source, which given how often they call each other 'brother' should be impossible; the slash is just that implicit. Happily Nancy Springer's style includes eliding over chunks of time and omitting huge details like what sort of pants they're wearing at the same time as it doesn't lend itself easily to explicit smut. *g*
Thanks for the opportunity,
quasar273, and for reccing my story, too. It was tremendous fun to bury myself in the source again.
*If this isn't the sort of rec that gets you to read something, how about this?: Elves! Destinies! True Love(s)! Flying horse! Angst! Hurt/Comfort! Magic! Implicit smut! Outlaws! Prophecies! Fighting Evil! Epic brothercest decades before Numb3rs and SPN! And that's just in the 2nd book...
**It does, though, insist on people passing out when they have shared orgasms of destiny. Honest. Stop looking at me like that. I feel I'll 'die and disintegrate with love.'
