but in that good way. and not at all creepy.

so we have these semi-annual meetings over here in the land of UMD electronics packaging reliability. what we like to refer as the "justify your existance" meetings. all the research sponsors come to see what you've been using their money to do.

i presented my project around 11am this morning. then i went outside to just kinda hang out and decompress... i used to have a smoke, but i don't do that anymore.

so this guy comes out after me and i figured he was just coming out for a smoke. i give him the polite nod. he says, "how's it goin', dan?"

which is not really odd. i mean, aside from the nametag hanging around my neck, i had just given a presentation with my name on it.

but he started asking me the same questions i got from the guy at notre dame, at the conference in atlanta... and this guy from impinj at the conference in san francisco...

"so how's the thesis work goin'?" "how much time do you think you have left?" "got any idea of what you want to do after you graduate?" before he rolled into the ol' "lemme give you my card" and proceeded to practically offer me a job. except he started this all off with one i wasn't expecting...

"yeah i've been following your work for a while now, and...."

huh. really?

it feels kinda weird, i guess. i dunno, maybe it's the irish catholic upbringing, but we're just not used to this kind of attention. it's sort of... well... flattering.
