Navy to JAG officer: you suck
Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift, 44, will retire in March or April under the military's "up or out" promotion system. Swift said last week he was notified he would not be promoted to commander.
... "Charlie has obviously done an exceptional job, a really extraordinary job," said Marine Col. Dwight Sullivan, the Pentagon's chief defense counsel for Military Commissions. He added it was "quite a coincidence" that Swift was passed over for a promotion "within two weeks of the Supreme Court opinion."
man. what a crazy coincidence.
welp, let that be a lesson to you kids, thinkin' about goin' in to the armed services. you can be so goddam good at what you do that you argue a case in front of the supreme court... but that don't mean you'll get promoted.
which especially sucks with that megasweet "up or out" deal.
gee. i wonder if the pentagon knew about that up or out business when they decided to pass him over like that. mebbe someone should let them know.
