Fans thinking that fanon is better than canon...

Dec 17, 2011 00:15

It wasn't my intent at first to make a post about it, until I saw a Tumblr entry that really pissed me off...

Basically, the whole entry was talking about new characters in Hetalia. The poster wished Himaruya would stop making new characters. If this was because the others haven't got a lot of appearances, I would be okay with this, but it wasn't. ( Read more... )

general: fandom, character: all, general: canon

He moreover added that OCs and fanon portrayals of the characters were obviously much better than canon. You know ? The basis of the fanon.

there would always be people like this I guess... ^^;

I'm sorry... I cant... I'll just support Hima san

Sticking to your fanworks won't help, moreover. Better go ahead with the canon and new characters or go away from the fandom.

I actually think people can do this if they're that annoyed with the canon interpretation but they should always remember that is a fanon character and it (probably) will never mean something as special for other people as it is for her/him... (that's how I see it at least)

I've got to agree with this point. Like in my case, for example, I kind of mentally ignore the final three volumes of XXXHolic in my headcanon following it's infamously anti-climatic ending >.<;. But I do still acknowledge it's actual ending in canon, however. Because as disapointing as it may have been, it *was* how the manga concluded. I don't try to re-write it in reality.

No one is forcing anyone to use the new canon characters, but by doing so, you're staying out of the common vibe. Fanworks won't probably have any success and make the opposite happen, actually. I recall some OC Norway with the traits of a mary-sue, no kidding.

It is people's choice to do so, though 0.0.

Yep. As long as they aren't obnoxious with their own portrayals and if they warn others about OC or OOCness, I don't have a problem with that. Norway OC is a perfect example.
