I will try to make this quick since I'm going to sleep soon. So sorry if I don't reply to everyone until tomorrow!
Anyway, my wank is basically what's in the title. Running into role players who suddenly think they know everything about sex just because they role play France.
Short version: I was helping to explain something about a certain toy to a friend. Just because my explanation waswn't the "wiki copy pasta" version, I get some corrections on my explanation. Pointing out how these corrections made little difference earned a "Well I should know, I role play France" as their only defence.
If you really want more info on exactly what happened...
So I happen to role play with someone in the fandom who's quite young. She'd heard a friend used the world dildo around her and didn't know what it was. They tried to explain it to her what it meant but she didn't understand their long explanation of it. So I told her in the most simplest terms "it's basically a fake penis".
Okay yes, my definition is not the best one out there clearly, but she understood what a dildo was instantly from it. And that was all she was really asking for. I also thought to add that it's possible have it in a harness to attach to your waist, since I'm sure she knew what a strap-on is.
My problem here is, I get told my definition is wrong. According to them a dildo and a strap-on are completely different things. Yeah. A strap-on dildo is very different from a dildo. Sure. And the sky is green with pink polka dots.
I told them kindly at first that the thing on the strap on IS a dildo. So that other than the harness, they're not that different! Hell, I even directed the damn wiki page, because they sounded like they were quoting from the site themselves when telling me I was wrong. But after pointlessly trying to find out why the fuck they thought the two items were completely different items that shouldn't be associated with each other, their only counter argument in the end was "Well I role play France, so I should know".
My wank here today: You don't. Don't care if you're playing a sexpert, the thing is you. Are. Not. That. Character. You do not have the same damn skills as the character you role play, you are not at the same level of skill and expertise as the character you role play, you do not know everything as the character you role play. You may have some similiarities as the character you role play, but the fact is, you are different from that character. It is not a valid argument to think you suddenly know everything because you play that character. Especially when it comes to uneducated virgins talking about sex.
And this isn't even the first time! Oh no. Fucking living in my own house, finished high school years ago, have a job, and I run into girls not even in high school whose only interaction with sex is looking at wikipedia try to tell me that because they role play as France they suddenly know more about sex than I'd ever be able to know.
I don't fucking enjoy having arrogant brats acting like role playing this one character suddenly gives only them the privileged expertise in sex. Especially when it's clear they know bloody nothing about it. It's one thing to go around correcting some facts, because you happen to know about the topic, but willing to realise that you don't know everything about sex. But it's another (and completely irritating) thing to act like you know everything about it and that it's not questionable. Worst of all when we're talking about something that has a gigantic YMMV plastered all over it!
