Cinderliet and the World Conference (3/?) anonymous November 28 2010, 18:30:23 UTC
Lithuania raced to pick up the pieces of the tea set, cutting his fingers on the shards in his haste. If he was very lucky, maybe Russia wouldn't find out what Lithuania had done until after the conference. Unfortunately for him, the narration was opposed to him having any luck whatsoever. What? This is supposed to be the story of Cinderliet.

And rather like the Disney film that made this story famous, it's time for a tonal departure.

So while Lithuania scrabbled around the corridor on his hands and knees, soaking his pants with spilled tea and slicing his fingers open on porcelain, Russia opened the door to his office hesitantly. He had heard the noise and his sister's voice, so it was prudent to make sure Belarus wasn't around before stepping out. Instead he saw Lithuania and the tea set with the sunflowers on it, shattered across the floor.

"Why would you do this, Litva?" Russia asked.

Lithuania did that thing where his shoulders went up and he started trembling. It was sort of fascinating to watch, like a rabbit who has sensed a wolf is nearby. At times like this he could see the resemblance between the Baltic brothers. "I--it -- there was -- I'm sorry, Russia Toravishch!"

Well, that was hardly a proper answer. "Do you not like me?" he asked, trying to prompt Lithuania.

Lithuania gaped up at him from where he knelt. He was very pale. It made his eyes look bigger. "I - no, I - I-I-I mean! Yes!"

Russia sighed. There was just no getting sense out of the Baltic nation when he was like this. "Then why would you break my favorite tea set?"

"It was an accident," Lithuania croaked, so soft Russia almost didn't hear him.

He'd been so good this whole week. Obviously being that good was just too much for him. It was getting harder to ignore that the nations he had so generously tried to make one with him resented him instead. Russia hated it. He had hoped at least Lithuania liked him enough not to do this sort of thing. "Please, comrade, you must not lie. Why did you break the tea set?"

Lithuania shivered. "I swear, sir! I-It was an accident!"

Russia bent forward and backhanded him. Lithuania caught himself on a hand before he could fall. "Do not lie."

"I'm not lying!"

Russia backhanded him again. Now blood was trickling from Lithuania's nose. "I don't wish to hurt you, but comrades do not lie to each other. We must be honest to improve relations, yes?"

There was fire in Lithuania's eyes when he met Russia's gaze, and he reached up to grasp Russia's jacket but seemed to think better of it at the last minute. He scraped his sleeve across his face instead, smearing blood. "What do you w-want me to say?" he asked, plaintive. "I'm telling you the truth now!"

Russia supposed he shouldn't have been surprised Lithuania required more persuasion to be truthful, but it hurt him deep inside when several blows later Lithuania was curled protectively on his side and gasping, "I was angry! I hate that tea set! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

"Oh, Litva," Russia said, unable to even smile at this revelation. He brushed hair away from Lithuania's bruised cheekbone. "Why did you not just tell me this right away?"

Lithuania hid his face behind his elbow, breathing harshly through his teeth.

"Now you are bloody and hurt. And look what you did to your fingers." Russia examines the cuts, doubtless caused from the porcelain. "I cannot take you to the conference like this. The other nations will think I abuse you, and that is not true!"

Lithuania made a sound deep in his throat, but in an alarmingly late bout of self-preservation he said nothing.

"I will take Estonia instead. Please give him your notes," Russia murmured, not unkindly. "I will have Georgia clean this mess up. Rest in your room and recover quickly so we can continue normally when I get home."

*

Lithuania waited until Russia was gone to scream and beat the floor with a fist.

Poor, poor Lithuania... he never gets a break, does he? *cuddles him better*

Just to make sure, if you have the satellite states living in Russia's house, Poland should be there too. It's just that you haven't mentioned him yet and I wasn't sure if you knew or not. But if you're planning something else with him, then feel free to ignore me ^__^
