He's still in that position when Alfred comes in a minute or so later, carrying the re-filled travel mug in one hand. He sits it down on the desk next to the phone and gives Arthur a curious look.
"Hey, you okay? You look like you've got an angry caterpillar on your forehead," he puts three fingers over each of his eyes and draws them together in the middle.
Arthur shifts the glare to him.
"Get it?" Alfred says grinning. "'Cause you're eyebrows are really-"
"I get it," Arthur says, cutting him off. "Go do that filing!"
"You have to taste the tea first!" Alfred prompts. "I promise, I tasted it, and it's barely sweet at all!"
Arthur looks at him for a long moment before, flushing slightly, he lifts the mug to his lips and, without wiping it off this time, takes a sip. He doesn't taste grease or mint on the mouth, only a mouthful of what he has to admit is decently brewed tea. It's a little watery, and he thinks there's a bit too much milk, but it's not bad at all, especially compared to its predecessor.
"Well?" Alfred prompts.
"It's passable," Arthur says coolly.
Alfred cheers.
"See? I'll be eating scones and saying 'bloody 'ell!' in no time!" he jokes.
"I'd rather you be doing the filing," Arthur tells him.
A few minutes later, when Alfred is tucking files into the cabinet and singing a song about the alphabet under his breath, Arthur's phone buzzes again.
"Aren't you gonna get that?" Alfred asks.
Arthur doesn't look up from his work.
"No."

I swear, France is going to actually be on screen at some point in this fic. OTL
A couple of notes: The University of Georgia's mascot is the Bulldog, hence the dub-style barking, haha. Also, author!anon is from the southern United States (though not from Georgia) and has worked in a restaurant that served sweet tea. If you've never had it, you have no IDEA how much sugar there is in it. I swear, some of the sweeter mixes really will feel like it's burning your throat if you're not expecting it.
By the way, I am convinced that America would feel that The World of Coca-Cola is a national treasure (!!1!), LOL. If you have no idea what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHZqiSSppow

Georgia Tech!anon here. I can't say I didn't get really excited when that came up, followed by a sudden blanket hatred for Al that I've never felt before.
to hell with georgia anyone?
Besides that I'm glad you're continuing. It's sad to watch the FrUK fall apart, but I really like what you're doing with the characters :)

Oh, man. As adorable as Alfred is being in this fic, I think you're making me hurt too much with the FrUK break-up; it's not only too well-written, but also very heartbreaking, the way they hurt each other. Man, I hope they manage to end (if they do end...is this fic supposed to be just desk sex, or are America and England supposed to end together?) somewhat on good terms, because even if their love dies it seems they truly care about each other.
This being said, boy, why is your America so adorkable? Awww~~
And also, you blow my mind away with how realistic Arhtur is and sounds. No matter how cute Alfred is, he's slightly less believable due to his special circumstances (aka, rich influential daddy), but your Arthur is excellent.
We get a mention of Matt...is this gonna head the USUK and Franada way? Cause maybe Matthew would be a good partner to cure Francis' heartbreak...please, don't leave him alone ;_;
Author!anon has come to tl;dr you!

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I'm sorry the FrUK stuff is breaking your heart! (Well, to be honest, I'm glad it is, because that means I'm doing it right, but still.) I really want to end their relationship respectfully, although in a situation like this no one ends up smelling like roses.
(if they do end...is this fic supposed to be just desk sex, or are America and England supposed to end together?)
OP wanted a break-up and desk sex (with a few other details) and left everything else up to me. I hope I'm not going to spoil anyone's fun by saying that, ultimately, the fic's pairing IS going to USxUK.
Adorkable America is my favorite America, haha! Although I will say there's more to him than what we've seen so far, I definitely see how he would come off as less believable, and I think a large part of that is that the fic is so heavily colored by Arthur's perspective and at this point he really knows next to nothing about Alfred's life or thoughts. (Or maybe I'm just not as good at writing him, IDK.) I'm so glad Arthur is working so well for you, though! :D
Hmm... well. TBH, I don't really have plans for Matthew to be a major player in this fic. (Actually, even though this has changed, I originally planned for him to never actually appear in the text. "Who?" XD) As much as I love Franada, I'm sorry to say that there are a couple of reasons for why I'm not planning to have the two of them hook up at the end of the fic, mostly from a narrative perspective. Finding an organic way for these two to meet and get together would be quite difficult for me, not to mention dealing with the repercussions of two parties who just went through a very difficult break-up dating a pair of brothers who live together. I don't plan to leave France sad and alone, however.
Thanks again for your comments, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the fill!

It's not dropped! It's just being updated very, very slowly. I'm really sorry! Unfortunately, the real world calls. But I just needs to survive the rest of October, and I'll be able to pick up writing it again. I have every intention of finishing it!

Oh okay! I was just curious- take all the time you need for things to get sorted out, and us readers will defiantly be looking forward to when you continue! : )

You're making me feel sad for FrUK breaking up, which is new. Keep up the good work.
