Mr. Jones looks clearly affronted. "Yes, there is a problem, as a matter of fact." His foot taps, a mockery of the earlier knocking. "Do you know what time it is?"
Arthur shrugs.
"It's the afternoon! You were supposed to see me this morning, remember?"
Arthur shrugs.
"I mean, it's not like we can't still have the session," Mr. Jones goes on, a little desperately, "but I would prefer not having to come over to your home to drag you into school!"
Arthur shrugs.
"Were you still asleep? C'mon, Art-hey!" A finger points, rudely, at the centre of his forehead. "Are you even listening?"
Arthur shrugs.
Mr. Jones frowns at him. He must be young, Arthur thinks, because there are no frown wrinkles. Funny that Arthur should notice that rather than the sounds coming from his mouth.
"-you hungover?" cuts through the haze of his dream-ridden thoughts, and somehow manages to stick.
Arthur doesn't shrug.
"No, definitely not," he says, scratching at his shoulder so his arm bends awkwardly around his neck. "If I were hungover, I wouldn't have heard you at all. Conversely, I could have, but would have ignored you completely. But no. For what it's worth, I'm not hungover."
The staring contest resumes; Arthur blinks first, and doesn't consider it much of a loss.
"Why didn't you come in today?" he asks, tone edging into accusatory.
"I didn't feel like it," Arthur says. It seems like a good enough answer to him. "There was nothing in it for me. By the way, how did you find out where I live-"
"-I waited all morning," the man fumes, pushing at his glasses; aggravated little jerks of motion. "You can't just skip when you're not in the mood."
Mr. Jones mustn't see the world the way Arthur does.
"Why not?"
"Because!" Mr. Jones flicks an overzealous hair from his face. "Because, if we all did that, nothing would ever get done."
Arthur is very tempted to say, sounds good to me. It doesn't seem like a good time, however, because Mr. Jones appears genuinely upset.
Arthur is just about to shrug again when a hand latches on his upper arm.
"Get dressed and cleaned up," he says, and for the first time, he sounds like an adult. "Or I'm dragging you in looking like that."
Considering his choices, Arthur gently peels the hand away. "They've seen me worse," he assures, but turns anyway. "I'll be out in a minute."
He walks away, hands tangling in his hair. Arthur expects to hear the door close, but when he twists his head, he sees Mr. Jones staring at his left shoulder blade. Arthur touches it.
Tattoo, there. A rose had seemed like a good idea at the time. Arthur had also been arse-over-tit at the time. Many things seem like a good idea in those circumstances, which so rarely are.
He smirks to himself as the door finally shuts, but not before he catches a glimpse of Mr. Jones' red face.
How odd, Arthur thinks, and smooths sleep from his eyes.

YES. Seriously, I love this so much, and how its slightly creepy that America goes over to his house [because no school counsellor should do that], but Engalnd doesn't really notice. And France. Just... France.

A billion Pixiv artists have also drawn that; we know England has a tattoo somewhere, and the rose is a huge symbol for England itself, so ... why not?

I like this Arthur. I like him a lot. And lol, I have no idea what I'd do if my counselor showed up at my doorstep on an afternoon of a day I had slept in and not gone to school. Definitely wouldn't have answered the door in my undies. xD

I really love your style, and you're doing an amazing job of keeping Arthur and Alfred in character, at least in this AU! Good job anon! (Do you happen to have any other stories on the kink-meme you're willing to share? Or at least de-anon so I can stalk you check out your other fics?)
I'm curious to know what Francis' relationship with Arthur is. But I can wait if it's in the name of USUK (or UKUS, I'm not terribly fussy as long as there's no one crying, because honestly, can you see either of these two bawling?).
(As a note, it would make Not!OP very happy if Arthur had more experience than his counsellor. I don't know why, but the idea of clueless!Alfred having to be led by punk!Arthur amuses me to no end.)

Way-too-knowing-for-his-age!Arthur and inexperienced-and-vanilla!Alfred sounds kind of hot, fellow anon; although since I'm not sure how old Arthur is I may be going to hell. He'll at least be willing, but I guess I should go back and check how old he is thus ruining the fun before making any suggestions that are too nasty. XD

francis and arthur are more childhood frenemies than anything else. they messed around at one point, but both were too nauseous afterwards to ever try again.

Your head-canon on Francis and Arthur and on Alfred's sexuality are kind of awesome, and Arthur's age totally helps. Enormously. It sounded like he had to be in his junior or senior year of high school, or the equivalent, but I was terrified I was going to be enjoying the fic enormously, then find out he was crazily young. And I may cover my ears and hum loudly and pretend he's turned 18 by the time anything happens, but 17 isn't squicky at all in fic. not the I'm actually advocating counselors doing their students, of course. But for some reason, the relatively small age difference makes it pretty much okay with me in fiction. Just like I'm okay with slutty "sixteen" year old schoolgirls in men's porn, as long as it's fictional because they're really legal. I'm especially since if it anyone's taking advantage a little, it will probably be Arthur! XD My logic is a bit broken here, but I'm strangely cool with it.
