Can I hear a woo for insomnia?

"I still think something's not right with Alfred." Ever since that party, Matthew had been concerned for his brother's health. The blood that had been dripping from the young nation's chin had reminded him eerily of when America had contracted Tuberculosis in the mid-to-late 1800s. Back then, the virus had lingered and reappeared several times, finally culminating in the Great Depression in the 1930s. Canada shuddered to think what would happen if the TB was coming back, as nowadays Alfred was a pillar in the World Economy.

"And I told you I'm sure he's fine, mon cher. Your brother has had bouts like this before and come out alright, non? Stop worrying, it makes your face appear un-cute." France was quick to rebuff Canada's fear, not wanting to think about what it would mean for both himself and the rest of the world if America actually caught something serious as compared to the cold that was the recent recession.

"He was bleeding from the mouth, Francis. That isn't normal."

"For once - and this will only happen once, so don't get any ideas you perverted frog - I actually agree with the bloody wine-o. Alfred is just fine. I took a look at his stock-market earlier today, and it was increasing." Arthur, too, was hesitant to think of the consequences of America being seriously ill. He made a mental note to ask the faeries to help him cast a spell to ward off any potential diseases America may have come into contact with.

"....You guys are no help at all, eh." Canada stood up from his seat at the small bistro he had been dining at with his "parents", intending to find someone who would actually listen to his fears.

Unlike the European nations, he had heard rumors of a new type of sickness beginning to spread in parts of his older brother's country. Information on the topic was very limited, with all coming into contact with the virus being promptly sought out and quarantined, but the few whispers that slipped out of the country were chilling. Matthew had overheard one of his citizens that had gone out to try and visit some relatives in the U.S. telling a story about how, when he got to the town his family lived in, he was turned away without explanation. The man went on to say that he seen, or at least thought he saw, a woman stumbling about on the street behind the blockade, extremely disheveled and mouth covered in blood.

Canada wasn't really sure what it would eventually come to, but he had a bad feeling about this one....

Derp. It's 5am. Why can I not sleep? Urgh.

Captcha: "leader Mementos"? Oho~, I believe I have just been inspired to create a fluffy reminiscence fic.

After two weeks, Arthur reluctantly admitted that he was wrong about Alfred. There was no way he wasn't ill, considering his recent behavior. The normally quite sociable young man had started holing himself up in his house, not leaving for anything but the most basic of essentials. When Arthur had tried to visit, he was turned away without a second thought.

The last time America turned England away was in 1776. Sure, he'd turned England away from visiting his neighbors once the Monroe Doctrine went out, but Alfred hadn't minded much when England had stopped by at his place. Maybe Matthew had been onto something after all.

Alfred, too, was becoming aware of his situation. Researchers had begun studying some of his citizens that had been infected with whatever the new virus was, and it wasn't looking good. What was worse, enough of his people had the damn thing that he was starting to show symptoms, too, and more than just a little drop or two of blood than it had been. Heck, it had gotten so bad that he could barely leave his house without freaking people out over his appearance. As a nation, he couldn't pass the virus on, but it's not like he could just tell people that!

....Fuck. It was times like this where America really wished nobody had ever tried to mess with biological warfare. It was still unclear what the virus came from, but he'd bet anything on some chemical experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong. Still, nothing he could really do about it by himself.

From what he understood from the reports he'd read(and also what he was experiencing, to a point), the early symptoms of the sickness included fever, coughing, and light bleeding from the mouth that would become much heavier as it progressed. In the infection's secondary stage, it began shutting down various parts of the brain, erasing areas associated with the conscious thought, leaving the infected with only basic instinctual drives, such as kill, eat, and mate, and most of their motor skills. As for the third stage... well, none of the subjects had progressed that far, but theories include everything from death to regression. Alfred, for one, didn't care to find out.

He just hoped he'd be able to pull it together for the G8 meeting next week.
