“You didn’t tell me I could call you Artie, Angleterre.” Francis swooped in, ready to divert the attention back to him.
“I told you to stop calling me that! It’s not even a real word!” Arthur yelled, red from anger.
“Why does he call you Angleterre?” Alfred asked skeptical.
“Long story, starting with the witch’s wife he flirted with. I’ll tell you later. Let’s just get new supplies.” Arthur replied, tiredness from the long run the previous night slowly getting to him.
“The supplies can wait, let’s get a room first so we can catch up on our sleep.”

This was a chance Francis couldn’t miss. “A room, for just the two of you, to catch up on sleep? My, Angleterre, I would never have guessed.”

If Arthur wasn’t so tired at the moment, he would have beheaded that frog, with his bare hands, or so he told himself. But now, all he wanted to do was find a bed and sleep. Nice and long.

He wasn’t tired enough to allow Alfred to carry him though, slapping away any hand that came in his neighborhood, making his way down the path behind the castle, a shortcut Francis once made so they would be able to spend more time in the village if things got out of hand again. They never told the people living in the castle about it, not wanting their secret escape to be discovered. Once they reached the village, Francis escorted them to the inn, avoiding shoes whenever he needed to jump.

“How long does he stay a frog?”
“I don’t know, it can’t be forever, otherwise Arthur wouldn’t have said ‘again’.”
“That’s true. Do you think it has anything to do with how much he really loved the girl he kissed?”
“Who knows. I thought you weren’t going to enjoy this story anymore?”
“I’m not, I’m just curious.”
“Riiiiight.”

They asked for the biggest room, so Arthur would be able to stay inside when the sun had set, not wanting to go outside again before he was truly rested.

Even though it was only somewhere in the afternoon, they bid each other a good night, before closing their eyes.

They slept until the next morning, no real problems at night, except Francis almost being squished by unicorn Arthur, who didn’t really see it as a problem, though, he would grudgingly admit, his life would become pretty dull in between the hunters if he couldn’t fight with Francis.

Once they had breakfast they decided to split up, Francis would stay in the room, to avoid being squished, while Alfred and Arthur would go looking for supplies. Francis had no intention of joining the quest, but he wanted to pester Arthur as long as possible, which was until the next morning.

Walking down the market, not really paying attention to their surroundings, besides the goods, they ran into a tall man with slicked back blond hair and piercing blue eyes, causing them to fall. The man didn’t so much as take a step back.

Arthur started silently cursing, before looking up, seeing a familiar face.

After some thinking, he finally remembered the name: “Ludwig, how are you?”
“I’m fine, Arthur, I didn’t know you were in Franmany. When did you get here?” Ludwig replied, before looking at Alfred.
“Only yesterday, we wouldn’t even be here if a certain someone didn’t leave our supplies behind.” Arthur answered, a pointed look towards his travelling companion.
“I’m Alfred, hero of the highest rank, who decided to help Arthur get rid of his curse.” Alfred introduced himself, before starting to talk about the various quests he fulfilled, all happy endings mind you.

“He’s going to help you?” Ludwig asked, skeptical look in his eyes.
“He didn’t give me much choice, he would’ve kept pestering me until I gave in.” Arthur sighed, trying to keep Alfred’s story out.
“How do you know?”Ludwig inquired, skeptical look joined by a raised eyebrow.
“He did the same thing when I didn’t want to become his friend.” Arthur said, shrugging helplessly.
“One last thing, how did he know I know about the curse?”Ludwig said, arms crossed.
“He didn’t, he blabbed that out, probably thinking that even if you didn’t know about it, you wouldn’t suspect I was the princess.”

“Hey.” Alfred suddenly yelled, “Did you call this Franmany? I thought we were in Frengy?”
“Not this again. You and Francis really need to talk with each other about the name. Arthur directed at Ludwig, who just gave him an evil staredown.

Not heeding the stare, Arthur replied to Alfred: “Francis and Ludwig have this fight going on. They each want a different name for the country, but can’t seem to agree on one that they both like… For the record, the official name is Gerfrancy. Everybody else you ask will tell you that, with a warning not to pay too much attention to either of them when the conversation is about the name of the village.”

Alfred just nodded, attention already drawn by something else. It was a saddle.

Arthur saw this and immediately went pale. “There is no way we are going to buy that, least of all use it.”
“Come on, Artie, think about it. We would get farther on a single day. I carry you by day, you carry me by night, it’s perfect.”Alfred whined, trying his puppy dog eyes.
“There is one problem with your ‘perfect’ plan, twat. You don’t change into a horse-like creature.”Was the reply, while Arthur tried to avoid the look. He had seen the effect it had when a child really wanted something from its parents and he didn’t want to become a victim too.
“Huh, why is that a problem? I can carry you just fine.”Alfred said, a smile lighting up his face.
“I don’t doubt that, but I don’t want other people to see us like that. It’s bad enough that the people in Spitan are spreading rumors about it, we don’t need to add fuel to a bonfire. And when exactly do you plan on us sleeping, anyway?”
“While being carried of course.”
“Oh no, no way am I sleeping while being carried by you.” Arthur yelled, turning around for added effect.

Big mistake, as soon as Arthur began his protest, Alfred had turned his puppy dog eyes on full power, Arthur now looking directly at them. He shouldn’t, he knew he shouldn’t, but the force was too big and before he knew it, he had taken back his rejection and agreed to the idea.

Back in the hotel room, he started banging his head against the wall, Francis sniggering because of the mental image of Arthur with a saddle… In his human form.

After dinner, Arthur got him back by ordering frogs legs for their sick companion in bed.

At the break of dawn, right after he had regained his human form, they left their room, newly bought supplies packed in their newly bought backpack. The bag was carried by Arthur, who in turn was being carried by Alfred to save his energy for the night.

Francis and Ludwig waved them off, Francis, still in his frog form, sitting on Ludwig’s shoulder, much to his annoyance, their eyes shifting from the departing pair, with an incredibly red Arthur, to each other, trying to glare the other to death.

When Arthur and Alfred had left their vision, they parted, each going back to their own thing.

Arthur and Alfred continued their way, destination Prungstria, where the witches duo would hopefully lead them to the start of their quest.

Silence
“Aren't you going to continue?”
“Why should I? The chapter is finished.”
“Than why are you still holding a page?”
“This?” holds up page, “This is a side story, but since you don't like the story anymore, I thought to spare you from pieces that are optional.”
“But I wanna know.”
sly look “Does that mean you still enjoy the story?”
sheepish smile “Yeah, can you read the side story now?”
“Sure”

“Arthur, how did you meet those two?” Alfred couldn’t stop himself from asking, knowing full well it might be their last chance at a long conversation.
Arthur sighed, before posing a question of his own. “I'm only going to tell you one now, so which do you want to hear first, Francis or Ludwig?”
“Francis.” Was the happy reply.

Side story: How Arthur and Francis met

Arthur had fled his home a few days ago, taking the first boat available to cross the water. Finding a job wasn't that hard, the baker readily accepted him, sorely in need of helping hands.

It worked fine in the beginning, Arthur, hired as live-in aid, was woken up around four got dressed, splashed his face with water and at four thirty, he started kneading the bread, forming cookies, mixing ingredients, whatever was wanted of him. But then, after three days, he suddenly woke up at sunset, barely able to completely fall asleep, before pain rippled through his body. He could feel his body reforming itself, and a little later, where first stood Arthur, now stood a unicorn.

He fled from the room, could hear the mistress screaming, before he disappeared in the woods. The next day he decided to quit his job. He wasn't sure what happened, but, being the eternal pessimist, he expected it to happen again and he didn't want to take the risk.

The pessimist in him rejoiced when the following night, the same thing happened, though the pain had lessened considerably. He didn't dare come out of the forest by night and only came out when absolutely necessary by day.

Four weeks of this one sided hide-and-seek had passed, the pain of changing long since gone and a new routine created. Arthur had taken up dragonslaying, the amount of gold not used to supply for himself, dropped on the doorsteps of the poorest families. Every night he would retreat in his temporary shelter, until he finished building his house, where he could change in peace and pass the rest of the day.

Four weeks, until the Vargas twin, aware of the situation, told him the grave news. A bounty had been placed on his head.

The night a 'princess hunter' entered the country, he experienced a pain he had never felt before, and he had this bad feeling the pain was never going to leave, maybe lessen, but never leave.

The pain filled nights followed one after another, the pain getting worse with each night, when the night he had been dreading arrived. His house was uncovered and used as a headquarter, forcing him to spend the night outside, where the wolves were lurking.

He spent the night running, crossing borders hoping he was entering a country where no 'princess hunter' was present, but he had no such luck. Near dawn he was caught, the pain and exhaustion of the previous transformations taking its toll. He could vaguely hear a scream, scaring the wolves away, before he was lifted up and carried somewhere, before darkness claimed him.

He awoke to soft hands putting bandages on his bruised and battered body, rubbing salve to ward of any infections. He didn't remember becoming a human again, he was just grateful someone found him.

The next few days were the same, he would flicker between soft hands and blessed darkness, until his strength had returned enough to stay awake. What he saw was a man, slightly older than himself, holding something to eat, smiling softly at him.

“Glad to see you're finally awake long enough to eat something, bunny.” The stranger said, “I was afraid you wouldn't pull through, but when I saw you change into a hulan, I knew I didn't have to worry that much.

All Arthur could register was the warmth spreading through him by hearing a friendly voice directed at him, but when the meaning of what was said registered, he started struggling to get out, to get away from the threat.

“Careful, you're gonna hurt yourself that way,” and he was lifted up as if he was a precious doll. “I'll take care of you, don't worry.” And despite himself, Arthur believed the stranger, and for the first time, he slept peacefully.

When he had fully recovered, he told his story, including the unicorn, to the stranger, who had introduced himself as Francis Bonnefoy.

Francis immediately burst out laughing, unable to keep the tears at bay. Arthur turned red from embarrassment, before turning around and storming out of the house. He was followed and stopped by Francis, who apologized and as a peace offering told Arthur about his curse, which was only known about by his employers and employee

This time it was Arthur who burst out laughing, Francis happy the scowling adolescent had finally let his barrier down.

They would send jabs at each other, joke about the other's cursed form, fight each other like cats and dogs, come up with the most embarrassing nickname, but they both knew, deep down, that they shared a beautiful friendship that would never be broken.

Another chapter I enjoyed writing. I also enjoyed writing the side story. I hope you all enjoyed it!!!

Clarifying a few things: The side story is situated before the Vargas twin know the full extent of the curse and thus, there is no special room yet.
America knows it's a story about them, but he doesn't want England to find out. He doesn't know what kind of story it will turn into though.
Do not worry, more side stories will be written. Don't be afraid to request when you see a character you would like some more history about I probably have it schematic already

I've had a lot of fun trying to come up with a plausible combination of the nations to name my countries, though France + Germany gave me some grief (that's why there are three names)
