“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be below ground, sleeping until morning?” Alfred asked, concerned. “Did they wake you up and scare you out?” ‘No. Usually, I’m in a room in the Vargas castle, but you decided I had to help you in your search.’ Arthur thought, wriggling, trying to get out of Alfred’s hands. “Easy there, don’t want you to fall.”Alfred said, taken a tighter hold on Arthur, before really looking at him. “You must be the strangest rabbit I’ve ever seen, with such eyebrows. No wonder those wolves were picking on you. You remind me of someone though, but I can’t put my finger on it.” ‘So that’s how much I mean to him, nice to know.’ Arthur thought dryly, before multiplying his efforts to get out of Alfred’s grip, the sun was starting to rise, he could feel it in his bones.
“See, the curse does not work beyond the story.” “I don't know, Alfred could say it, so maybe there's a third part to the curse. Besides it doesn't make sense, wouldn't people have noticed if they suddenly couldn't say 'rabbit' anymore, or 'bunny'. It's a quite common animal.” “This is unbelievable.” hands thrown up “How come when you need to use your head to help earth you sprout the most ridiculous nonsense, but when it is to prove me wrong, you suddenly start talking sensible?” “It's a gift~” Silence “Just don't talk anymore.”
Alfred just held tighter, not understanding why a rabbit would want to fall to the ground. He almost let go, though, when he felt the rabbit grow, faster than a rabbit should grow. Then he noticed that the whiskers were disappearing and its face looked more and more human. When the sun had risen to just above the horizon, Alfred was no longer holding a bunny, but a deeply mortified Arthur.
“Artie, what are you doing here?” Alfred asked, incredulous. 'Wishing lightning would strike me, and you.' Arthur thought, hoping that this time, the hole really would appear and swallow Alfred. “Yeah, I wonder what caused me to change into a rabbit and then back into a human.” he answered sarcastically. “Could it be because I'm cursed?” “Why didn't you tell me you were cursed?” 'Great, just great, not only did he find out about the curse, but now he's reprimanding me about it too, just bloody brilliant.' Arthur thought, just about ready to punch Alfred. “I can imagine how that would have gone. You probably would have been laughing your head off if I had told you.” Arthur retorted, an angry blush starting to color his cheeks. “That's probably true.” Alfred mused, “I know, from now on I'll carry you when we're searching for the princess.” “How did you figure that?” Arthur yelled, not wanting to be with Alfred the entire night.
They were already together the entire day and in Arthur's opinion, the villagers did not need even more gossip material than they already have.
“I can't just let you alone when the wolves are roaming the forest.” Alfred replied, winning smile directed at Arthur. “I took care of myself the previous nights, I don't see why I should suddenly need your help.” Arthur shot back, “And put me down.” “Is that why you're always hurt? Because you need to keep running from those wolves?”Alfred, ignoring his request, was genuinely concerned and Arthur didn't have the heart to shoot him down,... and he was too tired. “No, it's because of the curse. I'm usually able to find a hole in the ground and sleep through the pain, but that was before you showed up.” he answered 'Not to mention, the room Lovino and Feliciano let me use.' he thought afterwards. “From now on, you won't need to worry about a thing, I'll look after you at night.” Alfred responded, really trying to help. “You can sleep in my hoodie, I need to be quiet anyway, otherwise I might scare away the princess.” “Can't you just leave me in a room or something? Better yet, lock me in my house.” Arthur suggested. “No can do, you're still my sidekick, I can't just leave you alone.” Alfred replied happily.

Arthur just sighed and waited, with a pointed look, until Alfred put him down.
“If you think I'm gonna put you down, you got another thing coming. I'm the hero and heroes help people who need it, especially when they're in pain.” Alfred playfully said, holding Arthur even closer. “Great, just great.” Arthur muttered, being careful not to let Alfred hear it.
Smug smile “Told you Arthur could just lie about it.” “Technically, he didn't lie, he just didn't tell Alfred anything.” lecture voice. “Same difference.” wave of a hand.
“Hey Arthur, can I ask you something?” Alfred asked seriously. Arthur was flabbergasted, not once had Alfred called him by his real name and in return, he hadn't used Alfred's name. “What is it, Alfred?” he replied. “Can you change at will into a rabbit, you were so cute~” Alfred said, dreamily. “Besides the eyebrows, of course.” Arthur was seriously contemplating hurting him. “I thought you were going to ask something serious and, no, I can't.” he hissed.
Alfred just laughed it of, took a better hold of Arthur, and ran towards the village, more specifically, the tavern they've had their breakfast each day so far and sometimes their lunch. Never their dinner, because they had to be in the forest before sunset.
The first night of the new arrangement, Arthur couldn't sleep, afraid Alfred would suddenly start acting rash and he would fly out of the hoodie. It really surprised Arthur when Alfred didn't utter a sound. He was the complete opposite of the Alfred by day.
When the night had ended, and the day began the same way as always, Arthur kept comparing day-Alfred with night-Alfred, but could only conclude that Alfred was still the same. He was just very adaptable. He could smile when needed and could be serious when needed.
The nights became a part of the routine. When the sun started to set after lunch and Alfred had explored the country yet again, Arthur couldn't believe he still found it exiting, they made their way towards the forest, the spot they stopped at the previous day, Arthur already beginning to change. Once he was completely transformed into a rabbit, Alfred would put him in the hoodie, before slowly making his way deeper in the forest, being careful not to hustle his hoodie too much.
Arthur would slowly fall asleep, finally convinced Alfred was really looking out for him, slightly bitter though, because as long as Alfred didn't stop hunting for the princess, he would keep changing into a rabbit.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Alfred was rethinking the whole 'bring back the cursed princess' mission. Why was she cursed, anyway? Was it because she ran away? If so, why did she ran away? He usually wouldn't pay those questions any attention, but knowing that Arthur was cursed, forced him to think about the reasons. He didn't dare ask Arthur why he was cursed, because even though a lot of people told him he was pretty thick, even he could see it was a subject rather not touched.
Mind set on a new objective, he told himself he would only search for the princess, not catch her, so he could hear her story, and if the danger for the princess was her family itself, he might even help her get rid of the curse and then get revenge on said family.

This caused a change in Arthur's curse, because it was the primitive thought of money hunters 'Catch princess, get money' that changed Arthur in a bunny.
Alfred, only searching her for the adventure and from then on even willing to listen, caused Arthur's curse to reveal his real cursed form.
“I told you there was a third part to the curse.” “Yeah, yeah, good for you. Can't you just drop it?” “And not prove you wrong? In your dreams.” laughingly.
“Arthur, are you getting heavier?” Alfred couldn't help but ask, though knowing he couldn't speak as a rabbit. “Not that I'm aware of.” Arthur replied, causing Alfred to stop. “Arthur, did you just speak?” He asked hesitantly. “Of course I did, isn't that the polite thing to do?” Arthur replied, annoyed at being woken up. “Aren't you supposed to be a rabbit?” Alfred said, reaching towards his hoodie. “I am, what's the big deal?” Arthur's annoyance kept growing, sleep still clouding his mind. “Rabbits aren't supposed to talk.” Alfred replied, tentatively picking up Arthur and holding him in front of him. “Yeah, yeah.” Arthur yawned, sleep still holding his mind in its grasp.
When Alfred saw what Arthur was slowly changing into, he almost dropped him, but not being able to hold him up much longer anyway, quickly put him on the ground. This caused Arthur to finally wake up and realize what exactly was going on.
Where once was a bunny-Arthur, now stood a creature, mystical and magical, pure and white as snow, long legs causing him to be as tall as Alfred, tail swishing behind him, a horn proudly standing on its head. Arthur was cursed to change into a unicorn.
Silence “A unicorn, really Iggy, a unicorn?!?!” disbelief. “I didn't pick the story, you did. What did you expect with a title like that, anyway? And for the record, you just proved yourself wrong.” smug grin. “That's not the point, he changes into a unicorn. Why would the author make him change into a unicorn?” “Maybe she likes them, that's a good enough reason for me.” shrug. Angry spluttering.
“You're a, a, a,...” Alfred realized he couldn't say it and with that final realization, all pieces of the puzzle fell into place.
“You're the princess!!!”
Fate really wasn't on Arthur's side.
Oh America, of course the author choose the unicorn so you could have something to complain about
I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I wanted to try something slightly different for a curse, I hope you enjoyed it.
I tried to explain the curse as best as I could (within the story), but you can always ask if it isn't clear.
And seriously? I LOVE unicorns If you think I was too hard on America/Alfred, I apologize, it was not my intention
