“--'Then you add the cream, like so' - 'side effects include nausea, mood swings' - '-hen nine months later, the-' - 'baby, it's true-' -- 'official remarks on the allied Russian-United States moon station project. Although the project has been in development for some time, technological advancement has allowed for overwhelmingly reduced space travel and more productive terraforming practices. As a result, the project has been more successful than any prior estimations. As more civilians petition to be able to move to the colony, experts believe that it is only a matter of time before -'
Russia glanced up from his self-imposed exile and towards the troublesome stick that had caused it. It was sitting on the rim of the bathtub. Taunting him with its smooth plastic covering and the colored line that hadn't been there before and-
Russia's eyes widened. “C-color. Color. It's got color! What does the color mean?! Does color mean yes? No? Maybe? Is it supposed to be there?! Wha-”
“Settle down,” America said as he entered the bathroom. He gracelessly sat on the edge of the bathtub, scooping up the test and its box. Squinting behind his glasses, he first looked at the writing on the box, then the newfound colored line on the test, and back again. Eventually, it seemed a conclusion was reached, and he looked at Russia.
Russia stared back, utterly unblinking, as he grappled with the end of his scarf. “Well?” he asked, voice quavering slightly. “W-well?”
“We-ll,” America drawled as he completely failed to contain the smile that was breaking out. “I was thinking of a stars and planets theme for the nursery. What do you think?”
Russia certainly saw stars, although only for a few fleeting seconds as he passed out. When he came to, he was sprawled on the living room floor. America was straddling him over his waist, gently shaking his shoulders and yelling, “-van! C'mon, Ivan! Wake- ah, you're back. Are you okay? You worried me!”
“Da,” Russia said weakly, feeling the faint sweat on his body beginning to cool. He felt clammy and dizzy and sick and excited and petrified and dozens of other things that he couldn't even begin to describe. “Da, I'm fine.”
“C'mon, let's get you up. Being in a position like this got us in this situation in the first place,” America said as he helped Russia sit up. Once they were both sitting, America leaned against his larger lover, holding him in a loose embrace. A tense silence settled over the two for a moment before America cleared his throat. “Ivan,” he said quietly. “I have a question. I just want you to answer it truthfully. No matter what your response, I promise I won't get mad.”
Russia turned his head, tilting it slightly in curiosity.

The color that had slowly been returning to Russia's face immediately drained away again, and he shook his head wildly. “Nyet, nyet! That isn't it at all! It's just... I'm...” His eyes met America's, perhaps hoping he could express what he was feeling without words. Please don't make me say it out loud.
America seemed to relax a bit. “You're acting like this is your first baby, or something.”
“It is!”
“Uh, I hate to break it to you, but it's not a coincidence that Alaska has your nose. And eyes. And height. And-”
“But I wasn't around him when he was a baby. He could walk and talk when... when the world started to thaw. He could let me know if he was hungry or scared or... or hurt.”
“I hadn't thought of that,” America murmured quietly, possibly to himself. After a moment of thought, he slapped Russia on the back and gave his lover a blazing, eager smile. “Well, don't worry! You might not have much experience with babies, but I've dealt with fifty of 'em.” He gave his still-flat midsection a gentle pat. “And by the time this kid's out, I'm sure some of my awesome baby knowledge will have rubbed off on you.”
Russia smiled tentatively, turning to face America in their embrace. “Da?”
“'Da' indeed, daddy,” America replied. His eager smile began to transform into a smirk. “And speaking of rubbing things off, I've got a few ideas...”

Unlike my only prior fill, this fic isn't finished. I've been so busy with work and school, I didn't want to risk waiting to complete it and never make any progress. So I decided each part would focus on a different topic for daddy!Russia to freak over and mommy!America to teach him how to deal with it.
There are a few that I definitely want to cover, both during and after the pregnancy: hiccups, sibling rivalry, possibly first steps. That said, I would LOVE to hear any suggestions for topics any of you lovely anons may want to see covered. :)
You just broke my brain with adorable and win, anon. SO CUTE. Oh boy, I was giggling the entire time. :D
Suggestions...maybe dealing with the baby having a bout of colic? It's tough for even an experienced parent to deal with it. I can't imagine how much it would freak out Russia.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, OP!
And oho, it is funny that you mention colic. I definitely intend for that to be one of the topics. According to my mom, I was an unrelenting, take-no-prisoners colicky monster until I was around 3 months old. There was only one thing she could do to get me to settle down, and I intend to use it here. :)

AHHHHHH! Such a wonderful beginning! I truly wish that I could give you suggestions on what to do but I am just cooing at the fic... I loved your last fic and just went back right now and reread it and am sighing happily, your writing rocks! As for suggestions maybe a bigger cast this time? The little snippets I just read about England, France and Spain in your last fic (even though it was barely a paragraph) were utterly hilarious. Or feel free to ignore and do whatever you want to do. I will be stalking this mercilessly! :)

Heh, I'm really glad that you enjoyed both this fic and LAWLS (... oh my god, is that seriously the acronym of my other fic? HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS SOONER?). :D
Your suggestion intrigues me, though. I was intending to have this be more one-on-one with Russia and America, but it might be difficult to keep all of those other ridiculous dorks at bay. I'll definitely keep the suggestion bouncing around the back of my head and see what comes up.

FUN FACT: the TV noise was originally going to be totally unrelated stuff with only the news snippet being of any expository use, but as soon as I realized what I had typed for the cooking show bit my inner twelve year old LOLed forever and I couldn't let the joke go.
The moral of the story is listen to that pimply little voice in your head that goes, "LOLOLOL... cream."

Did you know that I have a thing for parental Alfred... the only things in this fandom I have more a thing for is parental Ivan and parental Gilbert (good dads turn me on so much). You have two of the three :] So anyways I am loving this fill thus far, Ivan's so cute with his freaking out over waiting for the test results. It was adorable and very much how he would handle that situation in my head cannon.
As far as things that Ivan needs to learn... Oh I an think of so many of them! My boyfriend just had his first nephw and was watching him for the weekend and called me sobbing for me to stay at his place for the weekend (I even taught his sister a thing or too so HA! wow that went off topic but she kinda hates me) anyways... diaper changing, I know it's cliche but when it comes to baby boys this can be a bit of a challenge and for newbies the baby will often fuss about having their diapers off because its cold... and they suck aren't good yet... but so a seasoned pro they can get that thing off and changed into a fresh one in no time. I've only cared for three but I can do two in under a minute... Al's probably amazing.
OP already mentioned colic so you know you've got to do that...
Oh, also since you said you were thinking about taking it up to first steps, could I suggest a phase where the kid hates the diaper and always pulls it off? My nine-year-old sister was like that.
Honestly I an probably give you a long list of trying things from my expirence with babies if you want that to go off of.

OH JEEZ this is the cutest Russia I have ever read. I'm really excited for more! Seriously, it's the most adorable thing to me when people worry too much over things. I think I'm going to love this fill.

“Ivan, do you... not want this baby?”

Lol that channel changing background noise was not only a funny way to make Ivan cringe but a very clever way to explain what's going to come.
