To Think They Missed This[4/?]

Alice felt something nagging her, but she didn’t know what.
It's been bothering her since she and her father just left the Chinese buffet; Liqiu, very happy with the quick bundles of cash earned with Takoda and Alice’s ravenous appetites.
Alice just felt something was wrong and she’ll damned that Murphy’s Law would fail her now. But, it helps to check, just in case. She checked the extra beds and futons she set up in the guest rooms, game room, pool room and the dining room that they never use. All clean and still in good condition.
She checked her refrigerator, fully stocked with an international variety of food.
She called up the caterers, still on date.
She checked her DVD and music collection, all in good condition, gently used and also of an international variety. She needs to return that Bollywood musical she borrowed from Latika.
She checked that Francŏis’s “gifts” were still buried in her closet.
She checked the durability of her new pajamas, stretching and running in several different ways. Nope, there’s no chance for malfunctions.
She checked Tony’s room. Nope, her little alien roommate is still in New Mexico, or was it Arizona?
She checked all the safes and security systems, all still strong.
She checked her dad’s workroom. She made sure it was locked.
She checked her dad’s booze cabinet. She can still break into it.
Alice didn’t bother checking the invitations; she knew what date she put on it, the 20th!
But then again, not all the invitations are alike. Alice made some of them by hand, but switched to computer-made ones after it got tedious.
Maybe she wrote the wrong date on the handmade ones…Oh, no! She has to call Alexandra!
She scanned through her phonebook, Hope she still has the same number.
Alexandra answered the phone after three rings, “Privet?” Alice felt nervous for some reason; this was first time they talked since their break-up that wasn’t a threat. She forgot how…different Alexandra sounded on the phone. She always spoke in a childish sort of tone, which would seem out of place on a normal person but suited her in a strange sort of way. Alexandra’s soft high voice changed into a husky mezzo-soprano and by the sounds of it, she just woke up.
What time was it? Alice checked the clock it read nine AM.
“You woke me up on an un-godly hour on my day off, what do you what?” Yep, still the same old Alexandra. Always to the point.
“I-I-I was just warning you that the party was today, the 20th, not the 21st, alright?”
“You are not pulling anything aren’t you?”
“Is it so hard to believe that I wanted to invite you because I wanted to invite you?”
Sure Alice wondered why she invited Alexandra in the first place, but she has two good reasons:
1.It’s just rude to invite everyone, but not invite her.
2.Even though a lot of crap they both happened, she still cares about her. She missed having someone to talk to. She missed having someone who would know to be the odd man out in a room full of evens. She missed having someone to bitch about Guinevere’s policy and smack her straight when she’s doing something wrong (not literally of course) without belittling her. When was the last time, she cracked a joke with her and Alexandra stared at her not getting the punchline?
Or the last time, she tasted Alexandra’s completely-made-from-scratch-thus-takes-the-whole-day-to-make-borsch?
Alice can’t remember the last time she even saw the girl smile with having a evil connotation under it.
Alice missed being able to look in Alexandra’s eyes and not feel the need to glare at them or feel fear.
She misses it all.
Alexandra’s silence sounds pensive, but she never answers.
“Well, I’ll see you later.”
“Bye.”
After hanging up, the nagging feeling just grew worse. What the hell am I forgetting?

OMG, OMG! <3 <3 <3 You made Al part Native American! *o* I LUV YOU!! :D (I also love the Takoda-Alice interaction. “NNOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!” It's so fitting, it makes me shed tears of joy. :') ) Wah, so Alice didn't mess with Alexandra on purpose. She was just being her normal, America-ditz self. ^^;
