I just read an awesome Russia/Prussia fill last night from part 9 in which Prussia actually becomes the Kaliningrad Oblast and lives with Russia, perhaps you are the same writer of that? ^__^
I don't really know what Gilbert does after the Berlin Wall falls, as long as it's a happy ending. And yes, preferably he doesn't spend all his time in Germany's basement playing video games cuz that is just very....OTL.
But wasn't the Kaliningrad Oblast formed in 1945 after WW2 (the Russian corridor to the Baltic Sea, a warm-water port), not after the Berlin Wall fell? Meaning that East Germany/Prussia and Kaliningrad were separate entities that co-existed at the same time?
And because Germans and Russians historically don't like each other very much and are very different culturally, different language, etc. and like you pointed out, the Prussians from Konigsberg were all killed/forced to evacuate when Russia took it over and renamed it Kaliningrad, I don't know if this would fall into my headcanon, but it is still an interesting idea. (At least this is what wikipedia has told me, personally I like Gilbert so much as a character, I want him to have something of his own in the end!)
But, I would love to read your idea! I am open to many interpretations, because we really don't know what happened to Gilbert after 1989. I would be very happy if Gilbert had some land/city to call his own home, even if it has changed very much since his glory days. And YES for Russia calming down after it all, I don't hate Russia, I believe he has changed for the better. So YES for the happy ending! ^__^ Thank you anon!

This other anon is a fan of Kaliningrad!Prussia, and I tend to go with Prussia either always been Kaliningrad after WW2 and never East Germany or Russia signs over Kaliningrad to Prussia later, before that it was just a part of Russia.
And now anon responds!

Nope. I didn't write that. I actually haven't written anything here yet except comments.... and two requests I made yesterday. I just think about this kind of stuff a lot and want to make sure characters make sense without spending a ton of time writing a fill. And to me, it doesn't make sense that Prussia would still be around after 1989 unless he now represents something else. Otherwise he would've disappeared like Rome. Kaliningrad Oblast is the only place I can think of that could work, even if there are inconsistencies like existing alongside East Germany.
Yay for someone else who doesn't hate Russia! I'm half Russian myself, even though my immigrant ancestors came to the US in the early 1900's, so I sorta feel like I have to defend my heritage, you know?
Uh, well, I wasn't really planning on writing this fill.... but I could try! I sorta need to now that I made two requests, but I just want you to know it may take a while since I'm in college. And I've never written a fanfiction in my life. For any fandom. But I'll try my best! At least rest assured it'll have proper spelling and grammar - that I know I can do. Oh, and it'll be friendship because I just know the fill will suck if I tried to go further than that.
Yay! If you do decide to take this up, I will be so very happy! :D That's an interesting point, right, Prussia didn't disappear like the Roman Empire- so that must mean that he's represented in some way. Awesome idea. I have Eastern European ancestors too! Let's both celebrate! Friendship is okay with me. Good luck with your college stuff. I'll be waiting patiently. ^__^ <3 Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day!
