Light Enough To Root, Firm Enough To Stay (5a) anonymous November 11 2009, 19:40:01 UTC

Much to Ivan's surprise, tomorrow did not come quickly at all.

The rest of the day had dragged on, Ivan's mind running in circles as he was left alone with his flowers. Left with nothing to distract him, he had thought about Alfred all day, pondering the man and his reasons for coming back. Apparently he was in school, most likely military from the uniform, but for what, Ivan was not sure. Although, given the other man's chatty nature, he'd likely find out. After closing his shop, he had gone upstairs, and spent an extremely frustrating night trying to sleep but unable to do so, mind too distracted. Not to mention, had he gone to sleep, most likely he would have dreamt about the other again.

So he had dragged himself out of bed, through the shower, and then downstairs, in quite a fine mood. He was exhausted, irritated, and the last thing he had wanted was to deal with Alfred.

But the day started to drag on, and Ivan found himself frowning. Where was Alfred? Well, it would make sense for someone like Alfred to flightily give a promise he did not mean.

Annoyed with Alfred and annoyed with himself for even waiting for the other to come, Ivan had set himself to making arrangements in a foul mood. When, in the early afternoon, the bells rang, Ivan turned around to fully chew out Alfred. "Alfred, if you are coming to this store just to annoy me--"

"U-Um...!"

Ivan blinked, squinted, and blinked again. It certainly looked like Alfred. But there was no uniform, instead he was in a red hoodie and jeans. He was also much more nervous than he'd ever seen Alfred, well, in the two days he'd known him. Alfred didn't seem the type to fidget. Also, the haircut was different... Ivan suddenly had a sinking feeling. Alfred had babbled about having a twin, hadn't he? "....May I help you?"

"U-Um..." The copy-Alfred stuttered. "M-My brother A-Alfred...s-said if I w-wanted flowers, to c-come here..."

Ivan stared for a moment. Was Alfred giving him...business? he shook his head slightly. "...If it is flowers you are looking for, da, I can help you with that."

Alfred's twin relaxed. "Th-Thank you....u-umn....I-I need something nice...n-not overly n-nice or r-romantic or a-anything, j-just...f-for a friend..."

Nodding, Ivan got off the stool, making a considering sound. "Do you want something pre-made, or a custom arrangement, or a simple bouquet...?"

"U-Um...premade is fine..."

Nodding again, Ivan picked up one of his arrangements. "How about this? It is very understated, so it will not say anything you do not want it to."

Nodding, the boy seemed relieved, and Ivan smiled. This was the good point about being a florist, helping people pick out gifts to say what they wanted. The boy left with his flowers, blushing wickedly when Ivan wished him good luck in his endeavor, and Ivan hummed slightly to himself, making another arrangement to replace the one just bought.

So, when Alfred did show up a few minutes later, grinning mischeviously, Ivan was in a better mood and withheld his earlier rant, merely deigning to ignore the boy.

Sadly, good customer service forbid him from ignoring Alfred when the other sauntered up to the counter to talk to him. "So, did Matty find what he wanted?"

"He bought an arrangement." Ivan demurred. Whatever this "Matty" was doing, Alfred probably knew all about it, so the other would have a far better idea if his twin "got what he wanted" than Ivan.

"Good! I was wodnering when he'd get the courage to actually do something. So..." Alfred leaned against the counter, smiling at Ivan. "...How's business?"

"One arrangement better than yesterday." Ivan stated dryly, and Alfred laughed. "Well, make that one arrangement and one sunflower better, then!"

"What..." Ivan looked up, before frowning slightly when Alfred presented him with another sunflower, already holding out the five to pay. "What are you using all these sunflowers for?"

"That's a secret." Came the cheeky repy, and Ivan frowned harder, reaching out to take the five. As soon as he did so, Alfred danced away frmo the counter, laughing. "You can't trick me again!"

Ivan growled, fed up with this whole mess. "What is your game? You buy my flowers, and give me extra money, and refer your family to me....what are you trying to get from me?"

Alfred merely grinned, eyes twinkling, and waved at Ivan as he walked out of the door. "That's for me to know and you to find out! See you tomorrow!"

Ivan stared after Alfred yet again, bad mood returned. He looked down at the money still in his hand, threw it into the drawer with a sigh, and stared down with a frown.

This was getting more complicated than he thought.
