“Sort of,” America said stifling a yawn. He glanced over his shoulder towards the table where Russia was sitting was. The other Nation had his head bent over his paper work and didn’t seem to even sense he was being watched, probably because he was always being watched with suspicion at these meetings.
“America…are you okay?” England asked softly, he reached a hand out and brushed it against America’s forehead. “You’re burning up!”
“Nah,” America said with a shrug. “It’s just wildfire season and there’s a big one this year. I’m fine…it’s not anything I haven’t dealt with before.
England frowned it was clear he didn’t believe a word America was saying. “I don’t think anyone would mind if you snuck out of here early…”
“What…no…they would eat me alive,” America said with a shake of his head. “I’m fine.”
“You stayed in here and did paper work and slept instead of going off to eat,” England pointed out. “You’re not fine…have you been sleeping at all lately?”
“I just have a lot of…stuff…on my plate,” America said with another shrug. “I’m trying not to be lazy…isn’t that what you guys all want?”
“Not being lazy is not the same as working yourself to death, America,” England said sternly. “Go…get some sleep.”
“But…” America argued.
“Go…” England said in a tone that brooked no arguments. “If anyone complains, I’ll deal with them.”
“You’ll tell them this was your idea?” America asked cautiously even as he was already gathering his papers together.
“Yes,” England snapped in exasperation. “Go already before I change my mind!”
America didn’t need to be told twice. He dumped all his stuff into his briefcase and hurried past a confused looking Canada returning to their table. He could hear murmurs spread through the crowd but they hushed when England strode up to the podium and began talking. America didn’t stick around to hear what his explanation for his departure would be he was confident his old friend would come up with something plausible.
Now that the idea was in his head he couldn’t wait to get back to his room. He doubted he would get any sleep but a long hot soak in a cold tub, a big order of room service, and perhaps some bad daytime TV before turning his attention back to his work sounded like it might be a good substitute for the time being.
He paused in the door to the meeting room and turned his head back towards the tables and desks. He wasn’t surprised to find eyes on him that was as natural occurrence for him at these things as it was for Russia. He was however surprised to find that Russia was one of them, wearing an expression that was unreadable across the distance. They held each other’s gaze for a long moment before America nodded in his direction, received and answering one back, and then turned to make his escape. The odd occurrence of the afternoon was out of his head before he even really had time to think about it.
It wouldn’t stay that way. * * * TBC * * * Notes: --Israel has been a member of the United Nations since 5/11/49 --The State of Palestine (commonly known as just Palestine) currently holds Permanent Observer Status at the UN first granted in 1974 (redesignated it in 1988) and in 1998 they were granted further rights and privileges.

Baaaaaaaw, poor overworked America! He needs to kidnap Russia, ductape him to a chair in his hotel room, and just sleep for a day or two. writer!anon, you're awesome, can't wait to read more from you!

I'm loving this! Reading about how tired America is made me want to go lie down myself....poor America. I loved your Russia and how he shut up the others and let America rest for a bit. I'm developing a Protective!Russia kink, I believe.

Protective and not-creepy Russia! That was so cute... does that mean we are going to get Russia/America cuddle time later on?! Russia does look like a comfy pillow :D
