The Christmas Without War (China Version - Reminisce)

China sits in the garden of one of his old palaces, and reminisces.
Here he had lead Japan through the wide halls by the hand, talking about the palace brightly as he knew the other was too shy and polite to ask such questions directly, although the wonder is alive in those dark eyes as the child looks around. Here he had also stood in the garden, correcting Korea's form as the other tried a wobbly martial arts stance, fierce determination on his face. Here he had sat Taiwan down, showing her how to fold and weave and tuck her clothes, watching her eyes glitter at the patterns and styles. Here he had gone over ship designs with Hong Kong, teaching the island what he would need to know about being a seafaring Nation with an emphasis on trading. Here, he had memories.
There are also other memories. Of war, and dynasties falling, and the glimmer of betrayal sharp and bright as the blade of a katana. China has many of those memories too, but he chooses not to indulge. That is, of course, the secret to staying sane when you have centuries and centuries of bad memories. You simply do not remember them unless you can deal with it, and China is very practiced at steering his thoughts the way he wants them to go. He does not want to remember bad things right now, and so he does not.
This is not the time for bad memories.
A tiny hand places an intricately folded crane into his lap, and he smiles. "Xie xie, Rì běn.”
Japan nods in silence, face as taciturn as ever, but that breaks when Korea suddenly tackles him from behind, yelling, and there is a small struggle. But the yelling is not anger, the brawl is not war, and when Korea darts off, Japan running after him, he is laughing in play, not crying in desperation.
Taiwan sits also, hands folded into her sleeves like a proper young woman as she plays at setting up an elaborate tea ceremony, serving a tiny Hong Kong who is as straight-faced as Japan, but less hidden, as he is smiling softly. China had taken upon himself to fill the kettle with bubble tea and well, if it does not pour correctly, that is all right, because Taiwan did not flinch away from him and Hong Kong has no English marring his speech. Even Vietnam and Thailand are here, the girl swirling the water in the pond around and around in slow circles as Thailand adjusts his glasses and continues climbing the tree beside, and there is peace.
He considers telling Japan and Korea that it is bad decorum to run through the gardens, telling Taiwan that dragging her sleeves into her tea is not ladylike and telling Hong Kong that holding the tea cup like that is bad manners, telling Vietnam and Thailand that the tree and pond are decorative and not meant to be toys. He considers this. He picks up the paper crane in his lap and considers that too.
He does not say anything, and merely smiles as he watches his children.

OK that's all I have written now. More characters and a world meeting to come, also with a slight return to humor. The characters went introspective on me. D8

I thought it was pretty funny how England had that nagging feeling he had work to do, and then was so thrilled when he didn't.
I lol'ed at Canada (superstar to all but Kumajiro), and lmao'ed at America/Russia (papers thrown aside, ignoring the desk, what fun)
And the China one was so freaking cute.
Can't wait for more!
