V-E Day [3a/?] anonymous October 2 2009, 00:35:56 UTC
America watched England stand there, looking utterly surprised. He pushed his glasses up, grinning. England looked so wonderfully cute in his bathrobe, cute enough to jump. But this wasn’t about that, and he shouldn’t go there. He had asked once, and England had been horrified. The look tormented him sometimes, making him wonder what ifs and maybes. What if he had waited, maybe it had been too soon…

“England, you had better get dressed soon, since we’re going out~” he said, banishing those thoughts. He still loved him, loved him more than anything, but he couldn’t change it now. But perhaps this could make up for it.

“I need my bloody tea first! Don’t rush me,” he said, turning on the kettle. “Tea must be prepared properly. But I doubt you would know that.”

“You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles,” America said, taking a bite out of his McGriddle.

“What?” Of course he wouldn’t get the reference. Shame, since Cary Elwes really was British. America didn’t think he even watched movies half the time. It’s like the man constantly drank tea, did embroidery, and sat around being a grumpy old man. It made America want to kiss him, because he was what he was and he loved him for it.

“Oh, never mind. You wouldn’t get it.” England sat down at the table, trying to look disgruntled, probably because he though America was invading his personal space. But he didn’t look grumpy at all. He looked…faraway and really fidgety. He kept shifting in his chair, and dragging his fingers in patterns on the smooth wood of the table. It was really weird, and America watched him as he finished up his sandwich.

Finally, he gave up. “Okay, your tea is taking too long. Can you please go get dress-?” It started to whistle before he could finish his sentence and he was forced to sit sullenly, chin in his hand, while England got up to fix his tea.

“Patience is a virtue, America,” England said in a quiet tone. “And anyway, I haven’t said I was going yet.” He stirred his tea, adding cream to it.

“You are going. You don’t have a choice. Today is a holiday we both can celebrate without pissing the other off. And anyway, I’ve heard from France that you’ve been staying in more often. You need to get out more, even if it’s just around London,” he told him. England didn’t stop stirring his tea, and it made him worried. Please don’t do this. Please don’t shut everybody out because you hurt. I tried that once, and it was terrible.

Don’t shut me out.

“That wine bastard has to learn how to keep his mouth shut.”

“He’s just worried about you.” America was actually surprised how much France was worried. He had been called specially to France’s house just so France could tell him and ask him to take England out. At his insistence that he wasn’t the right person, France had said ‘You love him, non? Then help him.’ And that was that.

England sat down across from him, stirring his tea. It was in one of those old-fashioned teacups, not a mug. But you got so much more tea if it was in a mug. He’d tried it. But he wasn’t about to tell England that, because then he would have to admit he actually liked some teas. Not the type that he threw into the Harbor, no. And England was staring intently at him. He stared back, meeting his green gaze.

“You’re not going to give up are you? You’ve got that stubborn look in your eyes,” he said, more to himself than America. “Oh, fine. I’ll come with you, wherever we happen to be going.”

“I actually don’t know. I was hoping you could show me around,’ America said earnestly, leaning forward. “I mean, it is your capital. I don’t know a thing about it.” And it made him mad. He didn’t know a damn thing about England and his long history. He’d tried looking things up before he came, but Wikipedia can only get you so far.

England was blushing. “A-Ah, when you put it that way, I suppose I can show you around.”

“Well, then get going! Drink your tea and go get dressed. We’re wasting daylight.” America made shooing motions. England scowled.

“I am drinking my tea. It’s not a race. And I haven’t eaten breakfast this morning. So you can bloody well wait.”

“We’ll get you something on the way,” America said, exasperated. Why did he have to make this so difficult?

“I am not eating any calorie-filled, greasy, unidentifiable meat like you just did. I will make myself breakfast here.” Oh, that would not do. It would take forever, especially because he expected they would have to call the fire department at least once. But, there was a way to get England to move faster. America stood up, stifling a fake yawn.

“Well, if you’re going to take forever, then I’m just going to have to go upstairs and pick out your clothes for you.” He walked towards the staircase and made it to the first stair. Wait for it…

“Wait!” And England was grabbing his arm, tugging him downstairs. “No, no. Stay here. Please, just stay here. I’ll go upstairs and get dressed. See?” He reached across the table and grabbed his teacup, slurping the rest down. America blinked. That was unexpected. In fact, he looked almost frantic.

“Whoa, Iggy, calm down. It’s just some clothes. I promise it won’t be anything too horrendous. I don’t think it’s possible to make your clothes look worse than they already are,” America said. He must not have been listening, or just didn’t respond, because that insult sailed right by him.

“No, no, no. You stay here.” He pushed a bemused America back into the kitchen. “Uh, make me breakfast. Eggs, bacon, toast, whatever you like. I’ll go upstairs and get dressed.” He was already halfway up the stairs, looking down on him. America didn’t know it was possible to walk backwards up the stairs.

“As you wish.” There it was. His secret ‘I-love-you’, laid plain for the world to see. England stared at him for a moment, and then tore upstairs. Yep, didn’t get the reference. America wasn’t quite sure if he was happy about that or not.

But right now, he had to make an awesome breakfast for his Iggy. And then take him on the most awesome date he’s ever been on.
