------------------------

Unlike the people in the streets, their celebration was rather private. Each nation had tried to bring something to celebrate, even if supplies were majorly still being rationed, they made an effort just this once. Just for today.

Music from the radio and laughter from those outside filled the air, champagne being poured into each glass generously, and then came the words they had been longing to hear.

“This is your victory! It is the victory for the cause of freedom in every land”

And then they exploded into cheers, disbelieving shrieks, tears of joy, the reactions varied. They hugged their friends, those who had suffered for so long and have lost so much. Those who had fought along with them from the start and those who had recently joined their cause, everyone was included in the celebrations. Even eerie Russia had joined them; he had brought along his own bottle of vodka. They were huddled next to the radio, greeting, congratulating each other, exchanging hugs and words of good will. England had been very uncharacteristically hugging France when he felt hands on his shoulders. With one last pat to the man’s back he let go and turned around, only to bump into another person. The familiar smell and the bomber jacket told him it was America, and under the current circumstances he wouldn’t have minded the close contact, but there was something a bit off with everything. Their lips weren’t supposed to be touching like that.

One by one the nations stopped their animated chat to stare at the pair before them. After a few seconds of silence someone started clapping. Arthur would later on discover that it was Poland. The rest followed his example and soon enough the crowd resumed their celebrations. England had buried his face into the other blond’s chest, he was sure he was burning scarlet, but he couldn’t help but to smile when he felt the American’s arms tighten around his shoulders.

Later on that night they would lay down the foundations for what would be called their Special Relationship.

that was absolutely beautiful. Very simple, very sedate, but it suits the atmosphere. Thanks for this anon!

I agree with the comments above, it sure is sweet and heartwarming. On a sadder note though you're wrong about one thing - not everyone was included in the celebrations... Politics suck, I prefer your version.
