In Which Canada Saves the World That is "One With Russia" anonymous August 23 2009, 16:55:42 UTC
Canada wakes up to find himself in a world that, at first glance, seems far better than his own. All nations are at peace, with no signs of war in sight, practically non-existant crime rates, a flourishing economy, etc.

Imagine his shock/horror/surprise at coming to find the reason for this is that every country has "become one with Russia".

At first, he thinks maybe it's for the better. If everyone is so happy and the world so pure, maybe Russia here is different than the Russia back home?

Then he discovers the other Nations of the world, whose situations are not nearly as bright and splendid as that of their people, merely mistreated servants of Russia, and that it is because of their submission that their countries are so peaceful.

Until he finds a way home, Canada must decide what is better for this world; the unification of being "one" with Russia at the expense of other Nations, or to help the more rebellious Nations get their freedom at the expense of peace.

CHALLENGE: This isn't an alternate reality, even though he thinks at first it is. Canada wakes up in a future he can't remember happening, perhaps by an attempt at some Rebel!Nations trying to take control of him or get them to their side.

Bonus:Some Nations submitted willingly to Russia, and as such, are placed as Nobles of sorts, below Russia, but above others that fought against him. Extra if Alt!Canada is one of these.

Double Bonus: Alt!America is Russia's personal/sex slave, completely broken and submissive and essentially, the exact opposite of what Canada would have expected.

Super Double Bonus: Alt!America is Alt!Canada's personal/sex slave, a gift for helping Russia to invade the United States in the first place...

I um, doubt I could do a full fic because I'm very very bad at multi-parters (and this needs to be done as a full multi-part fic, seriously), but I couldn't get this idea out of my head.

The room was small and dark with only a large television screen and a couple of laptops for company. There was a makeshift bed in one corner which suggested that someone had been sleeping there recently, but otherwise, it seemed to be empty. He turned to England, giving him a curious, confused look. "What is this?" he asked, not liking the way that England stood in the doorway, silhouetted by the light outside.

"You want to see your brother, don't you?"

"Yes."

England stared at him for a long moment, lips twisted into an unhappy expression. Matthew didn't think he'd seen him look like that in decades. Not since World War Two at least. He sighed heavily, sounding tired and he looked, Matthew realised with a start, old. His eyes seemed to hold the hurt of two thousand years in them.

"Just stay here. Watch the screen and you'll get to see him I promise." He wouldn't meet Matthew's eyes.

Matthew reached out for him, wanting to smooth away the hurt that he saw and get back his England, the one who forgot his name and had screaming matches with America and who talked to fairies and mermaids and sprites. He brushed the back of England's hand and England jerked away with a hiss of indrawn breath, started by even such a small gesture.

He eyed Matthew warily and then offered him the barest ghost of a smile, pitiful though it was. "Just trust me, Ca- Matthew."

And then he was gone and Matthew could hear the sound of a key turning in the lock.

It was a long time before the screen showed anything other than an empty room. Matthew had almost decided that it was some trick, that England had left him here and forgotten him, or wanted him out of the way or worse, that coolly logical part of Matthew's mind said, that he'd set him up and troops were surrounding the place as he spoke. It sent a chill down Matthew's spine to even think that of the man who had helped to raise him, but everything was so different here and Arthur was no exception. Gone was the temper and sharp tongue, replaced with cold quiet words and a chilly seriousness. But his hands had been gentle, there'd been a longing in England's eyes when he looked at Matthew, a sadness, and Matthew couldn't bring himself to think the worst of him.

He almost missed it when something did happen, wrapped up in the thick blankets that Italy had left. He was trying not to think about that encounter. The change in Italy was more startling than even England's, but it seemed that his learning at the feet of Rome hadn't been entirely wasted.

He caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eyes and with a startled gasp turned to face the television screen. It showed the same room as earlier, a plush luxurious room that Italy had told him was in the heart of Russia's palace. Red velvet and gilded furniture and marble floors. A conquerors room.

And there the conqueror was. Russia didn't seem to have changed, not even his clothes, the scarf still tight around his neck. His smile seemed wider though. he was talking to someone located off screen. Matthew could only see his boots, shiny black and kicking at the floor absently.

Matthew wondered who it could be. He couldn't think of anyone who would act so casually in front of Russia. Even his allies had treated him with not a little fear.

"Move back, move back," he murmured beneath his breath, wanting to see who it was but more than that, to see America as England had said he would. He needed to know why America wasn't there opposing Russia in any way he could, making trouble. Why he wasn't being the hero.

Finally Russia turned, walking further into the room and followed by the person he'd been speaking to. He was dressed in one of Russia's uniforms, one that England had explained meant they were nobility of a sort, able to move freely between countries although still subject to Russia's whims. Russia's allies.

Looking Glass Part 2 anonymous August 25 2009, 22:52:43 UTC
Blond hair, glasses and anyone else might have thought... might have thought at it was his brother, that the person standing there was America. Except Matthew.

Because he'd seen that face every day since he'd come into being, in ponds and streams, in ice, and later in looking glasses and TV screens.

He knew his own face when he saw it.

The breath froze in his lungs and throat as he watched himself, his other self, embrace Russia head pressed against his shoulder, like a child would his father, like a lover, like the swearing of fealty.

No wonder Lithuania had seemed so terrified of him. No wonder England had seemed so suspicious and Denmark so intent on bloody murder.

Oh god...

There was a kiss, a light brush of Russia's lips which deepened and Matthew looked away, lips twisting in distaste at the sight.

When he looked back they were talking, although there was no sound. He suddenly needed to hear what was being said. There had to be an explanation. It had to be a ploy, some kind of deceit on his other self's part. That was it, he was playing Russia, keeping a high position so that he could negotiate for the others. That was it, it had to be.

He fumbled with the laptop which was hooked up to the screen, finally managing to turn on the sound.

"-'s fallen," the other Canada said. "They have him waiting for you." There was no sense of concern in his voice, more like boredom or amusement.

Russia sighed softly, shaking his head. "It will take a while, but he will learn. Disobedient children must be punished."

Matthew felt a chill down his spine and wondered who they were talking about. Not America, please not America, don't let him have been captured.

He thought it fiercely enough that he missed the next part of the conversation and looked back at the screen just in time to see the other Canada gesture to someone off screen. Russia nodded, his smile turning cruel and Matthew felt apprehension well in the pit of his stomach.

"Of course, Russia," Canada said as the two of them walked further into the room and it was then that the third person came into view, several paces behind Canada, his steps quiet and precise and his head bowed.

Matthew almost didn't recognise him, despite the familiar attire, although the star on the jacket was replaced with Russia's symbol and there was no proud declaration of his states on the back. Matthew caught sight of his face as they moved close to the camera and despite the dead look in blue eyes, the complete absence of bravado or energy, there was no mistaking America.

No... no it couldn't be America. But Matthew could feel cold tears trickle down his cheeks as he continued to watch, eyes glued to the screen because he had to know. He needed to see the change that would come, when America would spring into action, his hero brother, and the other Canada would reveal his true colours and then everything would be alright.

Canada drew America forward, running a thumb over his lips. America barely reacted except to flick his tongue out, lapping at the digit, even as it was pressed further into his mouth, forcing his jaw open.

"You'll stay with Russia tonight, Alfred," the other Canada said, his smile chilling. He withdrew his thumb from America's mouth and America bowed his head, not saying a word. Canada petted his hair like a dog and bile rose in Matthew's throat when America nuzzled into the petting like it was expected, like he'd done it a thousand times before.

Russia reached out and tugged America forward, pulling him so that America's head was pressed against his broad chest, one hand clasping what Canada could now see was a heavy collar, a mark of conquest.

America didn't protest the treatment, just let it continue, seemed to smile as Ruassia stroked his hair. "You remember what I like, yes?" Russia crooned and America nodded. Russia let go of him, and America sank smoothly to his knees, a gesture, Matthew realised, that was far too practiced to be a first time. He reached in between the folds of Russia's coat, leaning forward to rest his head against Russia's thigh, mouth open...

Matthew ripped the cables out of the screen, blanking the picture and the sound although the vision seemed burned into his eyes. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself but America... he'd been, and Canada had...

He threw up in the corner, retching and retching until he could barely breath and his throat was sore and his stomach aching.

His tears were gone now, eyes dry with no more tears to give.

No...

The room suddenly seemed too small, the walls closing in. He needed fresh air and sunlight and to be away from the screen which had showed him those terrible things. He hammered on the door. "England! England! God damn it, Arthur! Let me out!"

But there was no response and the door remained stubbornly locked. After a while, knuckles bleeding, Matthew collapsed onto the bed, breathing heavily and too afraid to sleep.

A little way down the corridor, England sighed as Matthew's hammering stopped. He closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the wall. Matthew would hate him for this, but it was all that he could do. Stay there and be safe, Matthew. Forgive me, but I won't lose another son to him.

oh my god, this is going to haunt me. I love the hints at the bigger picture but mostly just, oh, this is several levels of heartbreak and awesome and I feel kinda bad for being all 'yay dystopia!' when I first saw the prompt because you've made this so personal. I honestly don't know who is the most heartbreaking in this, everyone is so tragic.

♥♥, basically. beautifully done.

I'm glad that it worked well since it was really a part that should come in the middle of a story and I was worried it wouldn't make sense. I love dystopian fics too, even if they usually leave me with mixed feelings and worrying about why I like seeing characters messed up XD

Thanks for the kind words ^^

Ahaha! Thankyou! I'm gonna' try to get some more done soon, although there's a chance it might be snippets of events until I can work some coherent plot in there.

Oh, wow. This was just...I'm amazed, writernon. You got the state of things across so well in just three parts, and those brief glances at the big picture made things so impacting. Intense~

And I felt so bad for poor Matthew, having to deal with /himself/ being so corrupted, and doing things like that to America, then giving him over to Russia... His denial of the situation, especially in terms of Alfred, tugged at my heart strings DX

And at the end, with England...I can totally undertsnad where he'd be coming from, and, as much as he's changed, I'm glad to see that at the very least he hasn't lost all sense of compassion or love.

Excellent job, writernon X3 :hands over her soul:

I'm really glad that you liked it. It was a prompt that I couldn't resist even if I've only managed a snippet for now ^^;

One of the things I really find interesting about England is his fatherly/brotherly relationship with America and Canada and in this kind of situation, I can really see him needing to protect Matthew because he couldn't save the other two, even if it meant going against what Matthew wanted.

Thanks again for letting me know that you liked it!

Wow. D: That was... amazingly well portrayed. It was great how England was so in character, yet changed. I approve greatly.

I dunno if you plan on continuing this, but if you do, I'll be there ready <3

Thanks! I'm glad that you liked it. I always worry with AUs that they're going to be out of character because they've changed so it's nice to know that you think it worked ^^

I wasn't intending to originally, it was just one of those scenes that hit me hard and had to be written, but now there's all kinds of ideas so I might have to work it out as a full story.
