Even Frogs Need Thanks [2/2]

England felt like his heart had stopped. If only he had thanked the Nation for always cheering him up, even just once. Why hadn't he realised just how much he needed the frog before?
Without thinking, he reached the bridge and dived in after him.
The water was ice cold, like an electric shock against his skin. England managed to resurface, gasping for breath. Quickly he scanned the waters for the other man, swimming with the current to catch up. It didn't take long to find the now unconscious Frenchman, but it was hard reaching him and even harder keeping a hold of him as he swam towards the side. Exhaustion plagued him, but determination kept him fighting the currents.
It seemed like hours had passed when finally they reached the side. England struggled to pull the other Nation's dead weight out of the water, mumbling prayers through lips numbed from the cold. He allowed himself a deep breath before checking the Frenchman's pulse. Weak, but there. Breathing?
It had stopped.
His hazy memory of first aid kicked in. His hands tilted France's head back, and pinched his nose firmly. England lowered his head and blew out. Lifted his head, inhaled, repeated. Tears laced his cheeks, dripping off his nose, but he didn't notice, all his attention focused on pushing air into the other Nation's lungs.
Then France suddenly coughed violently. England pulled back, about to bring him upright, when the coughing subdued. The blue eyes slowly opened, and focused on the Brit’s face hovering above his.
“An-Angle… terre…”
England shushed him, his fingers gently dragging the wet hair back, relief in his gaze. Trails of tears shone on his cheeks.
“Why, frog?” He whispered.
France stared at him before catching on. He let his eyelids fall slightly.
“Because… I… no-one wanted… me there… anymore.”
England looked shocked for a split second, before his expression softened into a smile and he shook his head weakly.
“You fool…” He breathed, leaning down to place his lips against France’s in a chaste kiss.
When he pulled back, France sighed.
“I must have died and gone to heaven.” He lamented. “You only kiss me in my dreams.”
I hope this is what OP wanted! It was so sad to write that I actually cried in the middle. My muse just wouldn't let go though! I couldn't resist giving a happy end, sorry!

Awww... I'm glad you gave them a happy ending, it would be too depressing the other way. I think what I liked the most was Arthur calling him frog even while he's being sweet and caring... I don't know, I thought it was endearing. <3
“I must have died and gone to heaven.” He lamented. “You only kiss me in my dreams.”
-breaks- ;_;
Thank you so so much! This was incredible! It was exactly what I wanted. I love it. It's just as dramatic and heartwrenching as I was hoping. Great work!

Glad you liked that! It's like Arthur's pet name for him. No other Nation receives a nickname from England after all! Endearing indeed ♥
