At dinner, the four nations sit down and eat peacefully. Korea wonders if the tension earlier was all in his imagination. China and Russia are so friendly with each other too, China staring at the larger nation with an obvious affection and admiration Korea had never seen from his older brother. America pouts, but he talks a lot, keeping it from growing silent and awkward. He and Russia banter lightheartedly, about the map of Europe and how all those ‘squiggly lines’ confuse America anyway.

“I’ll say you’re stronger than me when…” Russia searches for some incomprehensibly silly statement. “When you touch he moon!”

“I’ll do it” America says, before anyone can even laugh.

“Sure you will, comrade.”

“I’ll build a giant rocket that sends people to the moon, and we’ll put an American flag on it, just so you know who’s the stronger of us two. ‘America was here, the moon is his.’”

“Yes, but that will only be after I get there,” Russia muses, shocking Korea and China, as it becomes evident that they aren’t joking.

“…Are you idiots?” China asks, after a minute of silence in response to the absurdity of the conversation.

“I may be an idiot, but I will be an idiot who touches the moon before Russia,” America replies, flashing his brilliant smile.

“Who is to say you must be the first in anything? Who is to say if even you were the first to test that bomb?” Russia says, his frustration getting the better of him for a moment.

There is a shower of ice over the room with this statement. Korea feels it’s like the moment two angry cats come face to face, each one raising its hackles but neither wanting to start a fight. Russia’s hand snakes up to his neck, smiling passively, like he didn’t say anything at all.

“Take off your scarf,” America says lowly.

“Why should I do that?”

“It’s rude to eat with your scarf on,” he says.
“As is it rude for you to wear a bomber jacket outside of an airplane.”

“Korea doesn’t care what you wear to the table,” the smallest nation says helpfully.

And thus, the conversation is dropped.

China has to leave, much to Korea’s despair. After ten minutes of “I’ll miss you a lot foreeeever!” and ‘can I please braid your hair,” China finally managed to get away from him, meeting Russia in the back of the house to say goodbye.

“Did you remember what I told you?” Russia asks. China nods, and opens his arms to accommodate the larger man, who accepts his embrace.

“I’ll make you better, soon. I promise. I care about you,” he whispers. “I’ll take care of Korea for you.”

“Thank you,” China murmurs in return, drawing away. Russia smiles and backs into the house, where he almost flattens Korea, who’s been standing there the whole time.

Oooh, this fill is definitely shaping up to be quite different from mine (I'm the author of the other fill located below). I especially like the conversation between America and Russia with all that foreshadowing and tension underneath the surface, and the fact that you can't tell yet whether Russia or America will turn out to be the bigger threat to Korea's sanity.

Also, you included Russia/China. I swear, doing research about China and Russia for my fill (a later part of it, anyway...) is what caused me to ship these two so hard. Dear God, Hetalia, what have you done to me, causing me to think of the collapse of the Soviet Union as the moment when China went to help Russia and they made up after their falling-out in the 1960s?

ahahaha, yeah, I've had to do so many refreshers on the cold war and the Korea and Vietnam conflicts for this. This thing has a really weird love pentagon/hexagon/other polygons because I love me sum sexual tension or whatver. There's not any fluff though, except S.Korea/America is pretty fluffy. But I'm not as into obvious displays of relationships so I keep it at breif glimpses.

Russia/China makes sense in this time frame, that's why I'm including it for a while. my otp is actually Russia/America but you wouldn't know from this. Actually 'History!' is my OTP and it so happens that the cold war characters are my favorites for whatever reason <3

Oh yes you updated!!! \o/ This is turning out really interesting with Russia and America's talks, the affection between China and Russia. Was reading your earlier comments and I've to agree, even with Russia/China being my OTP, there's always that undertone of Russia/America.

And Korea! ;A; I'm kinda looking forward to the part when he switches personality!!!

Well then you're in luck! It's the next installment!

aah yeah, with me it's like, I like to use whatever pairing that is appropriate for the story. I'll read a well written story about almost any pairing. And for me, since I don't like fluff, stories with multiple pairings or where they're implied to all have that sort of tension are my favorites.
