"England~" Alfred called out as he walked through the British man's house with his trademark grin pasted on his face. He was excited. He had just perfected away to make a gaint hamburger bun to cover up the hole in the ozone layer, and the first thing he wanted to do was tell Arthur about it.

Maybe it had just become a habit from his childhood, but whenever he wanted to share a new idea or invention or talk to someone when he was scared, he always went to Arthur first. He was just glad that he was in postion where he could talk to Arthur now, since the wound of what had happened that day in the rain had faded at least a little bit. He hadn't wanted to hurt Arthur like that, he thought remembering sadly the other man's tears, but it was something that had to be done. If only Arthur had understood why it was important to him, to them. Maybe it wouldn't have ended so badly.

"Where is he?" Alfred wondered aloud. Maybe in his study? He opened the door to the room and stepped in.

The room was lined with selves of books, many first editions of Arthur's favorite writers. There was also a desk and chair, and a lamp. But no Arthur. Alfred frowned. Oh well he might as well sit down at the desk and wait for him.

As he sat down words flashed before his eyes. Familar words. Ones that he himself had helped craft.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed...

What? Why would he have it? It was an orignal too. Obivously well cared for through out the years as it didn't have as much damanage as you would think a document that was over two hundread years old would. He knew that Arthur had read it. But the man had always dismissed it as the whining disobitnecence of an adolscence. He had never seemed to understand how important it was to Alfred. So why...

"America, what are you doing in my office?" Arthur said from the door frame. "Honestly if you came here to tell me another stupid plan of yours to-"

He stopped short, turning white as he noticed what Alfred was looking at. He ran over to the desk and snatched the document away holding it to his chest. He managed to compose himself long enough to say "It's in extremely bad taste to go through other belongs when they're out of the house."

Alfred blushed, but looked at the other man determinedly stepping forward slightly backing Arthur into the wall.

"You-" Arthur spluttered.

"Why did you keep it?"

"Now see here brat! What gives you the right to come into my house-"

His voice trailed off as Alfred put his hand against the wall, trapping Arthur.

"Why did you keep it?" Alfred asked even more softly this time.

Arthur opened his mouth to give an angry reply, but changed his mind when he looked into Alfred's eyes. He looked at the floor.

"It was your birth certificate."
