Title: Prussia’s Diaries
Characters: Prussia, mention of America, Romano, Germany
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: Pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: PG for slightly gory imagery
Summary: Prussia, takes out his diaries and reads the entries for Halloween…
Prussia pulled one of his diaries off the shelf and opened it at random. The entry date made him chuckle when he read it, October 31, Halloween… All Hallows Eve, the date when spirits, spooks, ghosts and whatnot roamed the earth in search of the souls they wanted vengeance upon before returning to purgatory.
He read his entry, comparing and contrasting what was done then around the world to what was done now, like carving pumpkins instead of turnips, saying prayers to dead in the graveyards or over their bones in the charnel houses, and newer customs like terrorizing each other with ghost stories, or visiting haunted houses and the like. He chuckled softly to himself when he recalled the party America threw and how Italy’s brother, Romano, stole the show with his awesome portrayal of Grandma from “Little Red Riding-hood” with a Mafia twist, because if anyone knew awesome, it was Prussia. He his smile broadened into a grin when he remembered his brother the centurion and all his “slaves.”
“Aaah…” Prussia said softly to himself as he grabbed his diary from last October and flipped through the pages to the end, “that was fun! I hope America decides to have another party. Maybe I can get Germany to dress up as something scary this time, although, his centurion was pretty scary, now that I think about it.” He closed the diary and put them both back on the shelf. Maybe I should start planning my costume now, I’ve got four weeks left… plenty of time to come up with the most awesome costume yet! he thought as he sat down and turned on his lap top. Once it booted up, he began his search and it wasn’t long before he found something. “That’s it!” he cried happily.
Title: Wild Child
Characters: Prussia, Germania
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: Pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: PG 13 fro a character death
Summary: Gilbert's little jaunt on his grandfather's horse ends badly...
Author’s note: “Du bist so ein wildes Kind, aber ich liebe dich immer noch” means: “You're such a wild child, but I still love you”, according to Google Translate. Please also note that this is an AU where Prussia and his grandfather (Germania) are humans and not the personifications of countries.
Gilbert, ever the mischievous child, clung to his grandfather’s old war horse’s neck as it raced along. Blitzkrieg, who had seen his fair share of battles, had been spooked by a rabbit that ran out of the pumpkin field and between his hooves, and had taken off at a blind gallop. Both horse and child was scared silly, but Gilbert refused to cry out in terror as the horse raced along. Even when the stallion tripped over a fallen log and threw him nearly headlong into the ground, did the boy remain silent, despite landing badly and breaking the delicate bones in his wrist. Gilbert, simply lay there, stunned. The horse, however, thrashed about wildly, trying to get to his feet.
Gilbert’s grandfather found them shortly afterwards. “Are you alright?” he asked, relief at finding his grandson alive, clear in his eyes.
Gilbert nodded as he slowly pulled himself together. He cradled his injured wrist as he struggled to sit up, while his grandfather hurried over to his horse.
“Good.”
Gilbert watched in horror as his grandfather took aim with his hunting rifle and shot his beloved horse. Only then, did he start crying as the full weight of what he had done came crashing down on him. Blitzkrieg had broken his leg when he had fallen and there was nothing that could be done for the poor animal, except put it out of its misery. “Es tut mir leid, Opa!” he wailed. “I’m so sorry, Opa!”
“Sssh… We’ll talk about this when we get home, okay?”
Gilbert nodded, bursting into fresh tears when his grandfather wrapped his arms around him.
“Du bist so ein wildes Kind, aber ich liebe dich immer noch, Gilbert,” his grandfather said softly as he carried him home. Please don’t scare me like that again…
Title: Awesome Annoyance
Characters: Hungary, Prussia, mention of Austria, HRE, Chibitalia
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: PG
Summary: Hungary and Prussia have a typical moment between them…
Hungary walked into the sitting room and shook her head. Even blindfolded, she would have known him anywhere as he always smelled like a combination of horses, sweat, and old leather. “Prussia, get your muddy boots off the furniture,” she said, sighing softly as she approached.
He grinned at her, but complied. Having known each other since they were younger, Prussia knew she was quite capable of breaking his bones if she saw fit. His grin softened into a warm smile as the memory of the one and only time he had terrorized her surfaced. She was so spirited back then and the look of spooked horror on her face was unexpected and almost cute. Doffing his hat, he said, “Morning, Fräulein.”
Hungary rolled her eyes at him and sighed. Now that she was older and looked like the woman she was, he never failed to remind her of her femininity. “Morning,” she curtly replied.
“Austria here?”
“No, he’s out riding with Holy Rome.”
“Oh…” His look of disappointment quickly morphed into a salacious grin. “So we’re alone?”
“No, Chibitalia’s here, besides, I’m married, Prussia.”
“Oh…” he replied, his grin just as quickly fading, as he hated being reminded of that fact.
She smiled sweetly at him. “You’re free to wait for him, just keep your feet off the furniture.”
Prussia weighed his options. “Okay,” he agreed without a fight. One of lovely ladies at Old Fritz’s court had suggested he try winning her over by changing his ways, but old habits die hard. He had put his feet back up on the delicately carved tea table only to have her whack him upside the head.
“Get your feet off the furniture!” You stupid pumpkin-head!
“Yes, ma’am!”
Exasperated, she left the room, his laughter following her on the way out…
Title: I know what you did last night
Characters: Prussia, Germany, mention of Italy
Challenge: Challenge 13: Spook
Bonus Words: pumpkin, terror, bones
Rating: G
Summary: Germany is not happy Prussia scared the willies out of his beloved Italy…
Author’s Note: Thanks to my beta, Jen, fir the title!
Prussia puttered around the kitchen, making some breakfast. Gilbird sat on his shoulder, chirping some unsolicited advice while he watched. They were so engrossed in what they were doing, that they never noticed Germany had stalked into the kitchen, until Prussia turned around to head over to the coffeemaker. “Good morning kleine Brüder,” he beamed.
Germany narrowed his bloodshot eyes at him as he peered at him from under his unkempt hair. “You are a dead man,” he said with deadly calm.
“What’d I do?” Prussia asked in all innocence.
“Italy was up all night-”
“Invading each other’s vital regions, hunh? So that’s what I heard last night. Awesomeness!” Prussia’s grin faded at the death glare his brother leveled at him.
“You spooked him very badly with your nonsense. Whatever possessed you, Brüder, to turn that cute show America lent us, and tell him that the Great Pumpkin comes down at night to terrorize little children into giving up their Halloween candy? And when they refuse, he starts breaking their bones until they do?”
Prussia blinked. Several other emotions flitted across his face as he tried to think up a reasonable, yet awesome, response to his brother’s accusation. It did not help that Gilbird was chirping angrily at him. He finally settled on the truth as he saw it. “I honestly didn’t think it would scare him.”
That made Germany pause. “Well, it did. He was up all night worried about all the kleine kinder who were either going to lose their candy or get hurt.” Germany sighed. “You know how he is.”
Prussia sighed. “He’s very sweet.”
“Yeah…”
“You want some breakfast?”
Germany shook his head. “I just want you to think before you open your mouth.”
“Okay…” Prussia hoped he looked properly chastised.
Germany sighed. “Later, Brüder.”
“Later…”
