Title: Commemoration
Characters: Japan
Challenge: Anniversary
Bonus Words: loss, time
Rating: PG
Summary: Japan attends the annual commemoration of the bombing at Hiroshima .

Among the throngs of people who solemnly placed flowers around the eternal flame at the Hiroshima peace park only a few old timers remembered the actual event that was being commemorated. Perhaps next year he would be the only one left alive to remember those dark, horrible days.

Japan took a deep breath, letting the sadness of the memory wash through him, but not allowing himself to wallow in it. The past was over and the present was what mattered most, this wasn’t the first, last or only tragic event he had survived. The wheels of time forever spin and even now his people were spending nearly as much time speaking against nuclear energy as nuclear war.

He was still hurting deep in his heart from his most recent losses to earthquake, tsunami, and the nuclear reactor leak that they caused. So many of his people suddenly lost, followed by radiation exposure, it was poignantly familiar, considering the event he was at, and he quickly thought of other things to keep from falling into a well of sadness.

He thought of his friend America. He truly liked him and his people, they were interesting. He heard that they had held an event to commemorate the bombings in the USA too, as well as to protest war and nuclear weapons. The participants called it a die in, crowds of people lay down on the ground and had chalk outlines drawn around them to signify the loss of life in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It baffled his brain trying to imagine how this meant anything, but he did find himself amused over the image of what this must have looked like. Leave it to the Americans to make him feel like smiling now, after dealing such a tragedy to him so long ago.

Title: Secret Admirer
Characters: Hungary, Austria, Prussia
Challenge: Anniversary
Bonus Words: promise, loss, gain, time.
Rating: G
Summary: Right after her forced split with Austria Hungary started to receive anonymous gifts every year.

Hungary was keeping herself busy, trying not to think about him. She had a house to take care of and many new challenges and if she stopped and let herself miss him she knew she would never overcome their separation. One day shortly after the dissolution a package came in the post, it was addressed to her but there was no trace of who it was from. Inside was a hair pin with a large flower on it and a note that read, this will look good on you. She smiled and wore the flower that matched the one she had lost in battle in those final days of the war.

The next year she was gifted a cast iron frying pan.

The year after that an apron with eyelet lace around the edges.

The next year some ribbons for her hair.

And so it went for years and years until finally one time she went to Austria and told him he really didn’t need to send her the little presents anymore, she was ok with how things were and their friendship still meant the world to her.

He looked at her confused.” I didn’t send you any of those things,” he said with a blush, “I have sent you chocolates on valentine’s day but nothing on the anniversary of our divorce. Who would do that?”

Prussia stood outside the window grinning from ear to ear. What had started as an impulsive gift for a friend in her time of loss had morphed over time into a half hearted plan of little promise to gain his friendship with Hungary once more. Perhaps his persistence would finally be rewarded. Lord knows he regretted giving her that frying pan often enough.

“No!”

“Awe, come on Liet, you know you so totally will.”

“No.”

“I won’t stop asking, and, like, we will be in the middle of the market and you will so get frustrated and give in and then you will be so totally scandalized, people will be all, like, pointing at you and stuff; better do it now before that happens.”

“That would never happen.”

“Oh come on, you do this every year, and, like, I always win and you always lose.”

“That is because you are so obnoxious, but not this year.”

“This is totally a tradition, from when we first met, and besides, like, you promised when I got away from that scary, bad guy, Russia, you would do whatever I wanted. This is so totally what I want.”

“God, Poland, you are so embarrassing.”

“Come on Liet do it.”

“No”

“Show me your dick.”
