Title:After the Fiasco
Characters:Italy, Germany, mention of Austria
Challenge: August 2012: Cooperate
Bonus Words: willing, stubborn, friend
Rating: PG 13, because of hints of yaoi
Summary: What if Italy found out about the lengths Germany went to, to make Valentine’s day a special one?
Author’s notes: Thanks to my beta, Jen, for mentioning Germany and Austria “cooperating” during the Valentine’s Day fiasco would be fun to write about… I decided to go with Italy’s thoughts on the matter. And thanks also for suggesting a title.
No matter how many times Italy went over it in his head, while drinking his cappuccino, what Austria had told him last night about his best friend, Germany, still shook him. It certainly explained a lot and it left him feeling conflicted about the whole Giorno di San Valentino fiasco. To think that Germany felt so strongly about him as to ask for help and that Austria actually cooperated, and was willing to help or was it France that helped? Confused, Italy sighed and gulped his lukewarm cappuccino.
He was at a loss for what to do. He was just as embarrassed by it as Germany. The week they had spent apart, while great for giving them some space to deal with the situation, left Italy feeling lonely. His brother’s comments about him finally giving that “potato-bastard the boot” made him miss his friend, instead of making him happy they weren’t friends anymore.
Picking up his cappuccino, he finished it and as he set the cup down, he came to a decision. He was going to stubbornly carry on as if it had never happened and he hoped Germany would understand. Italy smiled. If he knew Germany as well as he thought he did, the big lug was probably doing the same thing. He got up and left his house for Germany’s.
As Italy strolled along, going over in his head what he should say to his best friend, he was greeted by a familiar sight. Heading in his direction was Germany and his dogs. Italy, quickening his pace, promptly tripped and fell. Oddly enough, it was the right thing to do as his friend was by his side in an instant, helping him up, while scolding him for being careless, not that Italy cared as his Germany was back…
Title:Cooperation Fail!
Characters:Lichtenstein, Switzerland
Challenge: August 2012: Cooperate
Bonus Words: willing, peace, stubborn, friend
Rating: G
Summary: Lichtenstein wishes her brother was more cooperative…
Author’s notes: Thanks to my beta, Jen, for giving me not only Switzerland to play with, but helping me with the ending.
Lichtenstein sighed softly. It was always so hard to getting her brother to cooperate with anyone. All he wanted to do was to remain neutral and stay out of everyone’s affairs. Which was fine when things were relatively peaceful, but this time things were not that simple. A lot of their friends were experiencing economic difficulties and while she knew it was childish to think they could hand out the money squirreled away in Switzerland’s banks to bail them out, she still felt the urge to help somehow. Unfortunately, her brother did not see things her way and he was proving to be just as stubborn with her as he was with everyone else. “We should be willing to help,” she pleaded. “It’s the right thing to do.”
Switzerland looked at her like she had suddenly sprouted another two heads. “I do help when needed! I just can’t hand out money that isn’t mine or my government’s and you know that!”
Lichtenstein still did not get why he was being so difficult about it. Germany was extending credit without batting an eyelash and it was not like his government was that rich. She looked at him helplessly for an explanation.
“It’s not that simple, little sister,” Switzerland tried to explain.
“I’m beginning to think nothing ever is…” She sighed.
“And that’s why I like to stay out of things.”
“I see.”
He nodded. “Come; let’s go get some hot chocolate and I’ll try to explain.”
Lichtenstein smiled. “Okay.” It was not what she expected, but it was a start. Besides, with enough hot chocolate he might be persuaded to help and if not, she was willing to add a little schnapps to the mix. But in the end, she should have known better, her brother was Switzerland after all…
