Why This Must Be Read: This is a short, evocative fic, where Max comes back to the Citadel after half a year away and Furiosa shaves him. There’s the subtle threat of violence and the deep trust of baring your throat for someone and the newness of being aware of somebody physically, all at once:
“I can’t promise not to cut you,” she tells him, and the noise he makes is close to a laugh.
Furiosa drags the blade down one side of his face, the slight hollows of his cheek, the gentle curve of his jaw. He makes a sound, a sharp intake of breath, and the knife skips, and a spot of red blooms.
