This story alternates between the prince's search for Rapunzel and flashbacks giving a believable and satisfying build up for what's usually a love-at-first-sight relationship. Personally, I actually enjoy this more than Disney's version of the story.

Why This Must Be Read: I had never heard of this fairy tale before reading this story (and if you want to read the original the author provides a link at the start of the story) but it's absolutely not necessary to do so. Grace is beautiful but cursed with being dumb, Ricky is ugly and blessed with being intelligent. While either one would spark my interest, I honestly had no idea how both were going to work out. The author does an amazing job of showing how two people who appear on the surface to be polar opposites could find love. Not only that but she gives an honest look at how Grace's curse would affect her family (especially her plain but intelligent sister).

Why This Must Be Read: This is always one of my favorite stories. It's told the way you'd expect to find in a book of myths, with the author adding just enough detail and embellishment in all the right places to make the story and characters real without losing that classical feel. Like most modern retellings, especially the ones found on the internet, Hades is a sympathetic character, but this is not done at the expense of Demeter. She loves her daughter and is understandably distraught but she is not turned into an inflexible shrew.
