Why This Must Be Read: Sebastian decides to go back to Starkhaven at last to take back the throne, after hearing reports of how his cousin, who is currently King, is mishandling his rule. Hawke, as Champion of Kirkwall, agrees to an engagement with Sebastian in order to strengthen his bid for the throne. It was supposed to be a political alliance only, but as things progress, Sebastian and Hawke find themselves falling for each other. This is an amazing story. I really love Sebastian and Hawke's banter and easy relationship, and the way it gradually deepens. These two truly make each other better. It also features an incredible ensemble cast and tons of political intrigues.

Why This Must Be Read: So canonically, if you romance Sebastian, you end up having a chaste marriage. In this story, both Sebastian and Hawke are struggling with having to remain chaste, both convinced their spouse would be horrified if they knew the carnal thoughts they were harboring. In the throes of such guilt, Hawke tries to hide in the confessional to avoid her husband, only to realize she's accidentally entered the confessors' side and the next confessor is Sebastian, who's come to admit his sinful thoughts. Cue the very thorough debauching of a holy confessional booth. Sweet baby Jesus is this hot. BLASPHEMOUS but really, scorchingly hot.

Why This Must Be Read: This is basically my favorite Hawke/Varric story ever. Cassandra, super fan, decides to start a book club to discuss the books Varric has written. Hawke joins it for the lols, and Varric is bemused, and then genuinely kind of worried when he finds out which book they're reading first... This story is screamingly funny and this is pretty much my favorite Hawke. The party banter is hilarious and on-point and my god, the pining and the slow burn and then the way Varric eventually declares his intentions!! It's just. SO MUCH. You need this story in your life!
