Why This Must Be Read: This is a beautifully written AU wherein mutations are real and carefully controlled within the confines of the Ark. This is not an all-around pleasant story to read, although it is well written; the characters are a lot darker and shaped by their experiences and environment. I have a huge soft spot for ruthless practicality and both Bellamy and Clarke have that in spades in this story. I do hope thet author continues it as I was basically breathless and gleeful during the week the current chapters were being posted.

Why This Must Be Read: Wowza. First and foremost, the writing in this is freaking great. The author does the work to establish the characters and their places in the universe and it does it beautifully. And while the sex is super hot, the emotional lifting done in and around those scenes carries the entire book. But, I think what I like most about this story is that it addresses and takes down a trope that I absolutely hate: that stuff can be avoided with a ten minute conversation about feelings. This is a fantastic story and one that I give about three thumbs up.

Title: Can't Buy Me Love
Author: Kacka
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5734846
Rating/Warning(s): G, AU.
Genre: Humor, fluff, friendship, romance.
Word Count/WIP?: 1,526/Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: I had a really hard time picking ONE of Kacka's stories to recommend. I very much urge you to click the author link above and work through their stories. Not only are they charming and sweet, they do lovely things with character. This one though? I LOVE this story! It really addresses one of the characteristics I identify most with Bellamy; namely his inability to believe the universe isn't screwing him over. Honestly, there's a gentleness and affection to all of Kacka's work that permeates this story, and gosh is that great.

Title: i don’t even know if you exist and yet i crave you
Author: bowlingfornerds
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/6240481
Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, language and homophobic slurs.
Genre: Humor, fluff, friendship, romance.
Word Count/WIP?: 3,617/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: So a pretty common current trope in the fanfics is an AU where people have soulmates and know they do because drawings made by said soulmate show up on skin. This is one of those, but I love it because it's just so silly and sweet. There's a decent amount of poignance, but mostly it's Bellamy and Clarke giving each other shit and being adorable.

Title: all the ark's a stage
Author: the_one_that_fell
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4243401
Rating/Warning(s): PG, set in season 1/2. Guns, canon-typical violence.
Genre: Humor, friendship, parody kind of?
Word Count/WIP?: 5,030/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: THIS IS AMAZING. Basically, Clarke, Bellamy, and the kids end up staging a telenovela so they can plan to break everyone out of Mount Weather. And if that doesn't make you want to read it, it's probably not the story for you.

Title: Only The Sound of Our Breath Soaks In
Author: LayALioness
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/6038824
Rating/Warning(s): G/PG.
Genre: Supernatural, romance, friendship.
Word Count/WIP?: 5,994/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: I have such a soft spot for LayALioness' work. Again with the humor and affection. This one is delightful for a lot of reasons, most notably is that it really hits an "Enchanted Forest Chronicles" vibe, but with Bellamy as the Dragon and Clarke as the Princess. The writing is lovely, but the spirit of this is more than worth the read.

Fandom: The 100
Pairing: Clarke Griffin/Bellamy Blake
Title: Hunger of the Pine
Author: Lila82
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4561998
Rating/Warning(s): M/Hard R, canon-typical violence, sex, spoilers for seasons 1+2.
Genre: Retelling, friendship, romance, angst, adventure.
Word Count/WIP?: 81,069/Unfinished.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: I don't quite know how to put my finger on why I like Lila82's work so much. There's an odd dissasociative quality to it that feels incredibly true-to-life, at least in a Clarke-pov. This is a retelling of the series but with Clarke raised in Grounder culture and being a bit of a bridge for the Ark. It's plotty, brutal, and emotional on a lot of levels and one that I highly, highly recommend. And while it's not finished, what's written is incredibly worth it.

Title: A Risky Venture
Author: enoughttotemptme

Rating/Warning(s): PG-13, KIDFIC.
Genre: Fluff, humor, family, romance, kids, AU.
Word Count/WIP?: 6,771/Series is incomplete, but each chapter is its own story.

Why This Must Be Read: I have so much love for this short series of fics. It's a modern AU (a lot of The 100 stuff tends to be, in my experience) and it's absolutely heartbreakingly wonderful! Gus and Darcy are pretty much the best, and the Bellamy pov is filled with humor and practicality and just so much love. enoughttotemptme has a wonderful grasp of kids and kid behavior and I think I've made it clear that genuine affection is one of my biggest soft spots. Even if you're super NOT into kidfic, I encourage you to give this a shot. I always end up smiling stupidly when I reread these.

Title: The Long Way Home
Author: crystalkei
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5507948
Rating/Warning(s): M, sex and swearing.
Genre: AU, reality television, romance, angst, friendship.
Word Count/WIP?: 11,283/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: I have such a weird soft spot for not-really RPF. This story hits that so hard I think I seal-clapped when it was posted. Namely, this has Clarke and Bellamy as costars of a reality tv series and it's straight-up romcom bait from there. Honestly, this is wonderfully written and a great read.

Title: you are my story (my fame and my glory)
Author: glowinghorizons

Rating/Warning(s): PG, canon typical vionence.
Genre: AU, retelling, friendship, adventure, angst.
Word Count/WIP?: 16,097/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: One of the things that frustrates me most about this show is how annoyingly escalated everything is. Time frames? Escalated. Aggression? Escalated. This is a sensible, great AU wherein all parties act like actual humans. Both Bellamy and Clarke are bad at friendship, but get better! The Grounders realize they're dealing with a bunch of children and make non-stabby choices, the Mountain Men are still a bunch of dicks but are weirdly more proactive? Oh, and EVERYONE USES THEIR DAMN WORDS.

Fandom: The 100

Title: The Young Gods Series
Author: iamsnowwhite
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/series/371750
Rating/Warning(s): G-M. Canon typical violence, spoilers for seasons 1 and 2.
Genre: Mythology, AU, retelling, friendship, romance, modern and canon.
Word Count/WIP?: 2K-8K depending on the part/Each story is finished and complete, but the series is ongoing.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: The theme of Greek Gods and the cyclical nature of history is a bit of an ongoing theme with the show. iamsnowwhite took this theme and ran with it. This is a series where each part is an exploration of theme with a different myth, casting Bellamy and Clarke in leading roles. It's a fascinating idea and really beautifully executed.

Fandom: The 100

Title: Here's to Life
Author: queenofchildren
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5478812
Rating/Warning(s): T/PG, graphic depictions of violence, pregnancy, minor character deaths.
Genre: Horror, adventure, suspense, AU, friendship, found family.
Word Count/WIP?: 9,434/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: EVERYBODY has to have a zombie AU, right? Well, this one is pretty great and it ends on a rather hopeful note. Which, given the subject matter, is pretty amazing. Still, queenofchildren does a great job of setting the scene and adding real stakes.

Fandom: The 100

Title: My True Love Gave To ME
Author: LayALioness
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5438396
Rating/Warning(s): M/Hard R. Sex, mentions of violence, mentions of adultery, recreational drug use.
Genre: Groundhog Day, AU, modern, friendship, romance, angst, introspection.
Word Count/WIP?: 26,798, Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: LayALioness is one of my favorite Clarke/Bellamy authors. Partially beause all the people feel pretty real and partially because they're SO creative on how they tend to tackle stories. I love the magical realism of this story and how we slowly get to know both Clarke and Bellamy and how they tick. I also have deep, deep love for repeating a day narrative, and this one is lovely.

Rating/Warning(s): M/Hard R, sexy times.
Genre: AU, friendship, romance, introspection.
Word Count/WIP?: 17,398/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: This story is lovely for a lot of reasons. It's written very well and it also carries a very warm tone to it throughout. Another weakness of mine in terms of storytelling is practicality and a willingness to Make Due with the threads life hands you and to find happiness in that. This is... very much that kind of story. It's also nice to see a Bellamy and a Clarke who are not horrifically damaged by circumstance.

Word Count/WIP?: 6,057/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: And in a complete hair-pin turn from the previous rec, we've got this one. One of the things that has itched at me from pretty much the word go is how angry people got with Clarke for leaving at the end of the second season. Which, okay fine, but that kid was pretty freaking damaged when she left, and this is a story that doesn't really back down from exploring that. I will say that it's not an easy story to read, but it's one I'm very, very glad exists.

Title: we both pretend (but i know that i start where you end)
Author: safeandsound13
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5362025
Rating/Warning(s): M/Hard R, cancer, medical treatments.
Genre: AU, friendship, romance, angst.
Word Count/WIP?: 20,878/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: I'm usually not one for "Character X has cancer, everyone deals", but I really, really like this one. Partially because for as much as Clarke's dealin with A Lot, the story really works to keep her and Bellamy's combative verbal style. It's also really wonderful about keeping Clarke's personhood, rather than her illness, foremost and center. Which is the best.

Title: Dreaming at the End of the World
Author: madjm
Link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5304953?view_full_work=true
Rating/Warning(s): M/Hard R, canon typical violence, sex.
Genre: Adventure, canon divergence, postep, friendship, romance, suspense.
Word Count/WIP?: 16,237/Complete.
Recced on LiveJournal By: aj

Why This Must Be Read: Crimeney, I wish this had been the first half of season 3 rather than the smoking crater of WTF we ended up with. This is a tight, fun adventure story that gives all the characters something to do, but as done through a Bellamy POV. I love the AI bits and how they cycle and the ending is very satisfying. Especially in hindsight.

Title: Risk/Reward
Author: Chash

Genre: Family, friendship, AU, puppies, romance, fluff.
Word Count/WIP?: 16,700/Complete.

Why This Must Be Read: Last but not least, there's Chash. Now, for anyone who's new, once you're done with this story, hit up the author link and gorge yourself on ALL THE Clarke/Bellamy FIC. BUT. Let's talk about this story first! First of all, there are TWO puppies. And an adorable kid. And Nerdy!Bellamy who's a librarian. And Clarke who's vaguely inept but tries really hard. And JAKE LIVES. Basically all of Chash's stories are super great and this one is no exception. GO BE NICE TO YOURSELF AND ENJOY THE NEXT FEW WEEKS OF YOUR LIFE IF YOU'RE NEW.
