So here I am, long-lost buddy of these kids. And here they are:
The changes: First of all, they are ALL tennis freaks. All of them. Parents, even Vinciane, who is a whopping eight years old, carries a racket surprisingly well. But Sebastian and Isabelle are mind-boggling. And Isabelle, even more-so. She's going to Wimbledon, I swear.
Not to mention, she is COMPLETELY different. She's older, naturally, so the annoying aspect of being a little kid was bound to go away, but it was really refreshing to find that it had, in fact, done so. She's 12 now, really quiet (whoopee, she's my favorite!), looks much older than her age, really blossomed. And I love the way she walks. She walks like an athlete, it's so awesome. Makes me wish I was more into sports, so I could walk like that. Her legs (calves, specifically) are amazing. I guess that's what tennis does for you...
Sebastian hasn't changed much. Just stretched out-vertically, that is. He's my age and towers over my padre. Spitting characteristic has gone away. Tres good.
As for the French kids, well... *squeal* They moved to England shortly after I met them in France 6 years ago, which is where they learned their English. So, naturally, they speak with British accents. It is THE. MOST. PRECIOUS. THING. EVER. They still speak with French accents, though, too. Every time I hear them I want to giggle and eat them up. They also go back and forth between English, French, and Spanish constantly. I don’t know how they keep them all straight.
Corentin is... Eh. He's absolutely gorgeous, he's going to grow up to look exactly like a Ralph Lauren model, but he's past that age where he's really little, so you can't treat him like he's a kid, and he hasn't quite hit that age where he's mature and cool. Ignores me, gives me weird looks when I act strange (which is all the time), etc. Slowly getting better, though. I guess he can’t help the fact that I’m a complete nutcase.
Vinciane is positively THE cutest little creature to ever walk the planet. Also going to grow up to be gorgeous. Tries to conceal her British accent and imitate our American ones; does so by holding out an R sound really long. Like "Waterrrrrr" to make sure it doesn't come out "Watuh." Has somehow latched herself onto me. It's a pity I'm such a child magnet. They love me so, it makes me think I'd almost be a good mother.
I've tried practicing my French with them, but Vinciane particularly still has her little baby talk, and then she uses slang, and spews out French at the speed of lightning, and it's almost impossible to understand her.
Note to self (and every other prospective guardians): Would make great babysitter if had endless supply of icecream sandwiches, an Xbox, preferably with games Dead or Alive and Halo, and then, for good measure, the first season of That 70s Show. (Yes, as a matter of fact, I WAS on babysitting duty last night. How did you guess?)
