I cannot say that I am surprised to hear that. I spoke briefly with your Captain, some time ago, and he was not familiar with my people, either. I suppose we do not exist in your universe of origin. Tarnax VII no longer exists in my universe, though our Empire still inhabit some fifty planets throughout various galaxies.

Of course. Of the official Federation languages, I am proficient in English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Irish, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish, Swahili (my native tongue), Swedish, Romulan, Vulcan, Klingonese, Bajoran, and others.

Magnificent. Though I am familiar in passing with several of those Earth-languages, there are many on you list that I have never before heard mention of. I only hope that one day I am able to present such an impressive variety of languages mastered.
