While I'm glad that you can identify with Veronica, I think her annoyance with the arrangement comes more from feeling like she's pushed into something she doesn't want/isn't ready for. I mean, her parents were nudging her towards marriage at the church - "Isn't this what you want?" / "Can't you see yourself wearing a nice dress like this?" / etc. She feels like Neptune is too traditional and old-school to let her be who she wants to be - a woman with her own, successful career, a woman without a husband, a woman living in sin with a man of her choosing. I mean, yeah, Neptune has it's own share of people living in sin, but those people are usually married and just cheating on their spouse. And, wow, that got off topic. Still, I'm glad that you could understand what Veronica was feeling - and I've definitely been there myself.
The thing about Veronica and her happiness - she is happy. But the question is more whether she really wants what she thinks she wants. It's not denial, but she might just not understand all the options available to her, if that makes any sense.
I'm interested to see how you tackle her fear/disdain of becoming a mother and/or wife, which is a HUGE obstacle between her and Logan.
I'd like to think that if an "accident" happened and Veronica ended up pregnant, she'd keep the baby and raise it. But, given the option, it's not a life that she wants for herself. She and Nick are kinda in the same boat as far as this goes - they'd prefer to be selfish. More time and money for themselves/each other; their focus can be on the pair of them rather than on a collective them. Both probably could be parents, and I don't think Nick would bail if Veronica got pregnant either - I think he's made of sterner stuff than that - but it's not the life that they envision for themselves.
It doesn't really answer your question, but I hope that helps to explain a bit where they're coming from and why they feel the way they do about having kids.
The line "Old habits die hard" from Logan just makes me think of icons I've seen with Logan smashing Veronica's headlights in with the crowbar and beating the squad car with a baseball bat. Heh. Maybe it's just me.
Well, Veronica's rental car company would probably not be too pleased with him if that were the case, right? I wonder if she took out extra insurance - just in case. [probably not - seeing as how she wasn't expecting to see Logan, heh] We should probably recommend that to her, shouldn't we?
But, seriously, thanks for mentioning that. It gave me an idea for a future chapter. I'm not sure if it'll end up fitting, but ... that could work in a nice sense of "full circle," I think. Feel free to guess away, but since it involves a lot of events that haven't transpired yet and that there haven't been much in the way of hinting towards, it'll probably be difficult to guess. Still, I think it'll really work out well - so thanks for that! :D
Thanks also, of course, as always, for the feedback. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it! I highly doubt I'll have anything ready to post in a week, but I'll work on it at least. :)
