This is Jacen Solo:
A brother, a son; a father in secret. A Jedi Knight, a Hero of the Galactic Alliance, the one who brought to an end the Yuuzhan Vong war.
Yun-Yammka, the Yuuzhan Vong god of war.
Jacen has suffered many hardships in his life. He has been kidnapped countless times, lost too many friends and killed too many enemies, and has struggled with the very meaning of what it is to be a Jedi. Perhaps it means nothing -- perhaps his brother Anakin was right, and the Force is nothing more than a tool to use as its wielder sees fit. Perhaps there is no dark side and light side, no deep or meaningful philosophy; perhaps it is all just a choice. You choose, and you act.
The truth, of course, is far more than this, because the truth is always greater than the words we use to describe it. Vergere taught him this. Vergere taught him many things.
Vergere is dead, and her replacement subscribes to a different set of values.
(Lumiya claims that Vergere, too, was Sith, but Jacen does not believe it. She claims many things, and Jacen believes only those that fit his view of the galaxy, or those that would open up useful paths. He is idealistic, but he is not stupid, and he knows what she is doing with him. He merely allows it, for now, because it is convenient. It is interesting. It is a choice that he has made.)
Jacen's gift has always been his empathy, his ability to communicate with any and all beings. Species has never been a barrier: some of Jacen's best friends in his Academy days were woolamanders and piranha beetles, ranats and crystal snakes. During his time with Vergere -- his next period of study, if you will -- he made a new best friend: a dhuryam, the World Brain, eventual controller of Coruscant when it became Yuuzhan'tar.
They grew up together, in the Nursery of a Yuuzhan Vong worldship. Jacen, a boy becoming a man; the dhuryam, a slave becoming free. They came to an understanding, forged an alliance, and through this evolved friendship. Trust. Love.
Jacen taught the World Brain betrayal, and in turn it taught him forgiveness. They are still friends, Jacen and the World Brain. It shares with him the secrets of the Coruscant underworld, and he protects it as he can and will. It is the last true friend that Jacen has, in this galaxy of fear and hate and suffering.
And like so many of his friends before it, it is about to die.
