My weekend was spent working. With the exception of a romantic and relaxed evening with Sarah, of course. But other than that, making $200 in tips (that includes last Wednesday) and another $155 after taxes in wages. I think. Thank God for the tips or I wouldn't make it.
I worked with a manager-to-be from a store in downtown St. Paul named Alana. She was Phillipino-American and more importantly a huge spaz. Pretty entertaining though.
The most important news, however, is all about Halo 3. It was released at midnight yesterday and we were there to witness the line of teenage and college-aged boys champing at the bit and looking angsty. To complete the evening's authenticity, one teenager in a backwards hat shouted "Suck my dick, nerds!" from the safety of his friend's accelerating car. Can we say "projection?"
Tex and I finished the game on Legendary difficulty in around ten hours. We played from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. and then again from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the first round he accidentally set pizza rolls on fire in the microwave. Paul spotted a ton of smoke and we had to air the place out for ten minutes before resuming play. Then later he was getting grumpy because we got stuck in a spot on the game. I was having fun but he was tiring out. During the second round his eyes were so bloodshot they looked like a solid color because he never went to bed. Still, we finished the game and I hit the hay.
Today I feel like I'm coming down from a super high. The story, despite its inconceivable or flawed parts, was pretty decent, and I got attached to it some. Now, like Harry Potter and the third Metal Gear and numerous other epic stories, I'm feeling the sadness of an end. At least there's online play, but I'm ready for a break from Halo. Ten hours was too much.
I should probably finally mention that the game is fucking amazing. Bungie seems to have noticed everything that wasn't working in the second game and fixed it. Weapons work on Legendary. The tank destroys things. Headshots kill things. All is well. The only thing that Halo 2 beat the others on was music, but Halo 3's music fit the "end of everything fucked up romance with a computer AI" theme they were going for.
I really want to write the stories for videogames. I'm hoping the degree I'm working on will help that.
