Thursday early evening, The Clocktower, New Gotham [Dinah's World]

Feb 15, 2013 00:05

Momoko's day had been spent wandering the streets of New Gotham, playing both confused Japanese tourist and competent investigator in her quest to gain information. Not that there was much to gain, apparently. She had updated Ms Barbara, who had not been too pleased with it either.

And not just because Momoko had handed it to her on paper...

1. there had been no witnesses
2. the body had been discovered by a homeless man, who admitted to taking the cash from her pockets, but claimed she'd been "that way" when he found her. He also said that he hadn't seen anyone go in or out of the alley before him
3. the cameras at the scene were totally functional and there wasn't any damage at the scene that seemed relevant (she'd taken pictures, but totally doubted they'd help since so much time had passed)

So after a day well wasted, Momoko was back at the Clocktower, on the phone to a number she had never actually called before: her dad's work.

"/Akatsutsumi, and how may I be of service to you today?/"

Momoko took a breath before starting. "/Dad, it's Momoko. Don't hang up! I know I shouldn't call you at work but I needed to tell you something./"

"/Are you hurt?/" Was the quick and obviously panicked response from her father.

"/No. But I'm staying a few extra days with Dinah. She's... Okay. She really is going to college to become a private detective, but I never told you this part... she's a hero in her world. Here. Except here it doesn't work the same way as at home, so she does it mostly in secret, with her guardians helping her. And instead of monsters, here, they have evil people with powers who do things and have to be caught by other people with powers... like Dinah... and like me. And she's got a case she needs help with, which I totally didn't know about until I got here, but I'm staying to help for a few days. Is, is that okay?/"

Momoko tried to breath again, but it was hard. Hopefully her dad hadn't forgotten how to speak 'Momoko' over the past few weeks because she wasn't sure she could say that again...

"/Be careful./" He finally broke the silence to reply, his voice sounding very tired to her. "/I will call your mother. Will your job be affected?/"

Momoko didn't even realize she was crying as she explained the arrangements she had made with Masa. There was a little more conversation, then a slightly awkward goodbye and Momoko bounced up from her chair in a much better mood than when she'd sat down. She rifled through her bag looking to change into something fun; she had a pub crawl to go to and she was ready to celebrate!
