Sunday night, Causeway and then into Baltimore

Jul 18, 2010 21:05

"Black?!? You want me to wear black?!" Blossom sighed and looked from the shiny but BLACK helmet back to her friend, who was 'checking on a few things' before they left the causeway. "Are you sure we can't fly? I don't mind carrying you, you know!" Blossom yelled again over the sound of the motorcycle engine. It wasn't that she was afraid of the ( Read more... )

In Baltimore... blondecanary July 19 2010, 03:37:34 UTC
It was less than half an hour later that they found the evening's excitement.

Rounding a corner on the bike, Dinah slowed to see two people getting to their feet in the middle of the street, looking shaky and trembling. "Are you guys okay?"

"Those guys just jacked my convertible!" said younger guy, looking crushed, his girlfriend shakily rushing over to put her arms around him. "Holy crap."

Dinah really shouldn't have grinned. "Call the police. And we'll be back soon."

VROOOOOOOOOOOOOM--

"Blossom, can you see the car? Get us any info you can. Canary, see if you can pull up next to the vehicle once we find it."

Blossom rolled her eyes as she flew. "I assume you mean the one speeding away from you and ignoring all street signs and lights?"

She kicked up her speed and zoomed closer. "What do you want to know? Ah! He's turned left at the second light from you. With no signalling? Hey! You almost hit her!"

It was like having Oracle in her head again. Only weirder. 'Cause it was Robin, and she'd been told whole reams of History of Crimefighting starring various Robins.

Dinah cut down a side-alley and said, "Got it. Hang on!"

And burst out of the alley just behind the carjackers, speeding up. Faster and faster and just behind them now--

"Maybe weapons and a head count - never mind, we're on them," Tim said. He put his hands on Dinah's shoulders. "I'm moving, Canary. Don't flinch," he said. He hopped up so his feet were on the motorcycle seat, then launched himself onto the trunk of the car.

"I only see the two." Blossom frowned as she watched. "There is a gun, I think. Something in the windshield, at least. Be careful; if you need to, jump straight up and I'll catch you!"

She looked back at Dinah. "Canary, there's an alley to your right. Leads to an empty lot you can cut through and maybe get ahead of them? Cut them off? I've got Robin's back."

"Got it!" Dinah cut down the alley, zoomed through the empty lot, and managed to get a jump off the curb that brought her down in front of the carjackers.

Who sped up.

So Dinah said, "Robin? Hang on. This is going to startle them."

And sent a newspaper vending machine and a park bench into the middle of the road in front of them.

Blossom noticed the car speeding up and shook her head. This needed to stop, now. "Robin, please tell me you can drive a car as well as a motorcycle!" She pulled her yo-yo from her pocket and sent it flying towards the occupants of the car.

Correction, towards the villains occupying the car.

She got her yo-yo around them both and yanked, pulling them together and up, out of the vehicle. "You're turn, Robin! Canary, please be ready to move!" She'd need time to catch up to the car if she'd just done something incredibly stupid.

Tim jumped into the driver's seat. "Got it!" he said. He yanked the wheel sideways, dodged the vending machine and park bench and went over the curb. He skidded the wrong way through an (empty) McDonald's drive-thru lane and came to a stop in front of a Radio Shack. "Good work, both of you. Canary, clear the street. Blossom, let's get some cuffs on these guys."

Dinah snorted, raising an eyebrow, and... cleared the street. Which she would've done anyway! But. Good reminder.

She roared up to the Radio Shack, grinning, and said, "Niiiice. And you guys? Let' em cuff you." She cracked her knuckles. "If you're smart."

And with that, Blossom was now firmly of the opinion that Robin was a bad, bad influence on Dinah.

"They're not going anywhere." Blossom hefted the wibbling and confused bad guys a bit higher in the air. "I can leave them tied up until the police get here. Robin's wearing gloves, so they'll have the fingerprints in the car and the owners can hopefully ID them."

She looked about for a good sturdy lamppost from which to hang her catch.

Tim checked the car for weapons but there was just one gun, sitting on the dashboard. He clicked the safety on and held it up to Blossom. "There's a second lamppost over there," he said, after she'd hung up the carjackers.

Maybe Robin was a bad influence. Or maybe Dinah was just remembering Helena's influence again. Go, Gotham.

Dinah checked over the car, then got back on her bike. "Looks like no major damage." Sirens were sounding in the distance. "And on that note, I think we should adjourn for ice cream. We don't want to explain this."

Blossom had pulled on a pair of latex gloves before taking the gun from Robin, a lesson learned from Professor Gibbs: she didn't want to mess with any of the fingerprints or other possible evidence on it. Now she was busily wrapping another yo-yo string around it.

"Give me a few seconds more, I don't want some kids to be able to get this down and take off with it." She soon had it pretty well webbed up, and she jumped back into the air to leave it hanging from the other lamppost. High enough that no one person could reach it.

"I hope the police find it. Should we maybe leave a note or something?" She frowned as she floated down to rejoin the others. "Our usual place, or back home?"

"Around here is probably better," Tim said. Less chance of running into people they knew, at least.

"You'll like the usual place." Dinah grinned at Robin. "They're used to us coming back from 'costume parties' now. Hop on!"

It was almost, almost like being back in New Gotham. And Dinah hadn't thought about missing her parents once during the whole evening.
