Sunday, Momoko's Back Yard, El Paso Texas

The weather was fine, mid-60s with no rain and a slight breeze. The backyard at Mrs Wilson's was big enough, though, that Momoko had set up a tent in case anyone from the colder climates decided that it was too warm. The rest of the yard was decorated in banners and streamers and balloons. Mostly green, though there was some pink sneaking through

Appetizers

When everyone arrived, there would be a number of things set out in small dishes or as finger-food.

Cucumber limeade
Prickly pear, orange, and mint salad
Gougères
Fig and olive tapenade with goat cheese, served with a dense homemade bread based off a medieval recipe (thank you, Bob)
Rich cream scones served with citrus butter
And for those of you who can't wait for the cake, Earl grey pots de creme

Please excuse Raven while she savored the appetizers. She was still trying to get the phantom aftertaste of bugs out of her mouth.

Hannibal watched her for a moment, then reached to put one hand on her back. "How are you doing today? Ghostly hallucinations all gone?"

"Yes, thankfully," Raven said, giving him a smile. "Except perhaps those items that Momoko wishes us to identify. I am not so certain those are normal."

Hannibal laughed. "At least one or two I've seen used in hospitals. But yes, there are some decidedly odd products out there."

"I am so very glad Karla was not visiting the island like I was," Raven said, glancing over to the guest of honor. "Does she not look lovely? She is just glowing today."

"She does," Hannibal agreed. "Perhaps a bit nervous still, but lovely. I think they both will make excellent parents. With the help of those around them," he added with a smile at Raven.

Raven felt a sharp pang of envy for a moment, but she pushed it aside. "I cannot wait," she said with a silly little grin. "I hope I do not spoil the child overly much, but I fear I may."

It really wasn't any wonder Kayla was a bit spoiled, was it?

"Look at the pile of presents she has already," Raven said. "There will only be more once she is born."

She planned to be responsible for roughly a third of them, if not more.

"It's the prerogative of friends and family to spoil her," Hannibal declared. "We wouldn't want to be derelict in our duty, would we?"

Raven raised her glass to his. "They are, yes," she said. "The worst of the trouble has been rooted out and dealt with."
