Fine Line of Sanity -Elle and Niki are the two with major psychological disorders, but almost every character has something psychological going on in relation to their powers. Peter’s desire to have something, to be special, may be inhabiting over being supportive. When he wasn’t focused on this, ie when he’s without a memory, his powers came easier for him-control came easier-and they came out as responses to his emotions, over his thoughts and what he desired. For Nathan, he pens everything back, in appearance refusing what is happening to be real-even if this is happening by his words, and not what he really feels, alone. Matt’s been injured by the mean things people have said to him throughout his life, and blamed himself when his father walked out of his family. For Nathan and Matt, they had to face their issues before finding acceptance within themselves, and thus were able to find progress with their abilities. I have this idea that Nathan is flying absolutely everywhere now because he’s lost everything of importance to him and there’s no image to maintain. And while he’s lost everything, he’s still here. Not by any means whole, but he still lives and can thrive.

The cool thing about Heroes is that a character can have more than one opposite. Bob and Elle are a nice parallel to Noah and Claire. That’s the main reason for Elle and Claire being opposites. Without Bob and Noah in the picture too, I think there would be fewer connections. Elle is, more than anyone, someone who has accepted her abilities and relishes in everything that is them. She never got to experience what life could be like as a normal person. There’s no balance there for her. Maybe for Niki, while she accepted one facet of herself, she has yet to accept other facets. Trying to deny the personality power only puts herself out of power. That doctor she saw in prison, before Jessica killed her (whoops) really had it right: she has to reconcile herself with Jessica (or the other personalities), accept them as a part of her, for a healthy person to emerge.

b>Control or Lack Thereof- Most people are the mercy of someone else in this episode. Besides what you mentioned, there’s Maya who uses her power for the first time with horrifyingly disastrous results; Angela who is doing her darndest to control Heidi, but seems to be failing; Nathan who, at least according to him, I think, gave up his controlled world to fling himself into his brother’s world, and was severely maimed in the process. Niki, as well, is constantly trying to find a hold on herself. And when she thinks that the Company has a malicious hold on her, and she decides to rebel, she realizes that they actually were helping her.

The show is all about control. You have the people who don’t have control, but are trying to make control; those who do have control and attempt to keep control. I’ve spoke on this before. They’re the two types that I broke down into those who were in the know and those who weren’t. But, over all, everything is about negotiating for power and/or control of a particular situation.

The Sensitive Subject of Race

The shootings...yeah, that is something that keeps happening. And Matt, who was shot four times, when everybody thought he'd die, he lived, miraculously, with no lasting damage? I don't honestly know what to say. It's just something so ingrained in our society that Kring and co weren't thinking about what they were portraying? But they are so thoughtful...ugh. I just don't know.

Questions

We still don’t know what Angela’s power is. *L* But it seems to be about manipulating people? And with touch. See! That’s where the boys get it! LOL
