Peter knew that Nathan was dead from the moment he caught his brother in his arms after the ‘bomb’ exploded over New York. Nathan’s noble actions had led to his demise. Peter could have done it on his own. Claire could have shot him, Hiro could have taken his off head, but no. Nathan. Nathan turned out to be the one who was the hero. It was Nathan all along. The hero had never been Peter.

The one thing that Peter knew he could do for Nathan at the time, was allow Adam Monroe to inject his brother with the life saving serum which was Adam’s blood. And Nathan was cured. No burns, no scars, a miracle.

So now, months later, with Nathan lying in his arms, Peter wondered, just briefly if he had the same ability. Could he now, from being in contact with Adam, have the ability to save his own brother? Was his blood a cure to all ills?

The thought of losing Nathan was overwhelming. Peter’s mind raced and he did the only thing he could. He stopped time.

Everything was frozen. The people were frozen, Matt was frozen, Nathan was frozen. The only one who had an say in what happened now, was Peter. Peter’s main focus was not finding the man who had done this to his brother. At this very moment, Peter was not dead set on revenge. All he wanted, was to reverse this. He wanted Nathan safe and out of the way of this terrible occurrence.

Peter attempted to focus, his emotions taking complete control, blocking him from doing anything. He tried to get his breathing to even out, tried to get his brain to do something, anything. Nathan’s life hung in the balance and Peter was the only one who could help him.

Peter shut his eyes, calling upon everything within him to have t he power to turn back the clock. His focus was direct, but he never once strained himself. He called his ability to the surface. Slowly, as if life was a video tape being reviewed, everything began to move backward. Peter watched as the bullets removed themselves from Nathan’s chest and his brother’s body, living once again, situated itself behind the podium.

Peter broke his concentration, time starting up again, Nathan’s speech coming to climax. It was precisely at that moment that Peter knew to step in front of his brother, taking the two bullets that had been meant for Nathan.

Peter, himself, could heal. There was no use relying on the what ifs of his new found abilities. He had used his own healing abilities before. He knew for sure that he would be fine from what could have been to Nathan, a fatal blow.

This was the least Peter could do for his brother. Nathan had risked his life, flown himself literally into a nuclear explosion to save the world.

Nathan had saved him once. Now it was Peter’s turn to be the hero.
