That red moon that Miles saw the other night still troubled him greatly. He believed what Muraki told him, that it could be tied to some ritual of the dark arts. But the doctor didn't seem to know any more than that, and Miles needed answers.
Could Tony know any more about it? Perhaps, but for some reason Miles felt that the Merlin was a better source. Tony had already shown that he could be quite powerful indeed, but the older Merlin just exuded more... experience. Miles wasn't sure, but he decided to go with his intuition this round.
So that was his task now - searching the Mansion's grounds for his supernatural mentor.
