Honest curiosity - has anyone else
experienced this?
I've never had it with any regularity, but I can think of at least three times it's happened out of the blue, sometime in the last five or six years. There's a
good little article on it here, too.
I get a loud noise - I think the last one I had was a shout - and I've definitely had the flash of light at least once. The last time it happened was the first time I got any kind of warning; I felt like it was building up before it happened, but it was still too quick to react to until afterwards. It's weird, but not painful so it doesn't really bother me.
People suggest links to migraines, other disorders, sleeping positions, and stress (among other things). The first two don't affect me, but the second two... maybe. The only similar experience I've had is a sensation, upon waking up, that someone has grabbed my shoulder from behind suddenly - but that has only happened when I've slept on my back, and as I usually sleep on my side it's not common. Sleep position, then, may be part of it. And I can understand stress.
Someone else reckons it's just your brain doing a quick check of its faculties - I've no idea. Any thoughts?
